I am a typical middle of the pack runner. I began running relatively late in life (late 40s), having never run before, starting for health reasons, and running now for several years. After completing the Abbott majors, and my first ultra of 42 miles, I hit
a lull in my running journey, not really knowing where to go next or how to train. Off I plodded, with no particular race planned. I wandered aimlessly from run to run with no targets in mind, gradually running for shorter and shorter times, getting slower
and slower through lack of any structure, goals, or targets, and frankly, just not enjoying it. Then I saw the advert for RunDot on Facebook! A training program using predictive analytics? Sign me up - what have I got to lose! So I signed up, and chose
the 6 months for half price option, and set my goal of my second ultramarathon, which would occur pretty much at the end of the trial period, giving me a good handle on how effective the training could be.
I think, as everyone seems to point out, the Z2 heart rate runs were the most challenging to start with. My first attempt was run-walk-run-walk-run-walk for 25 minutes. It just felt wrong and unproductive, but over time, I have reached a point where I can
run the whole time, but it is still slow, and I have to be very careful not to get too carried away up hills, otherwise my Garmin starts pinging me. The Z2 heart rate pace is actually a pace that I've never really run at before, always going faster than this,
whether training or racing. However, it does feel nice to now have this new pace in my armary, feeling comfortable enough to keep it going for hours if I had to. Other trainings involved a slightly faster Z2 running pace, with intervals at Z3 upwards, starting
relatively short, and progressing over the weeks to longer and faster intervals. There were also the longer weekend runs, but these were not as long as I was used to, building up to a single 2hr45m run before the ultra. I was worried this would not be enough
- Only time would tell. More positively, time trials were set about once a month, and I was amazed at how I progressed in these, managing to reduce the 5K time by approximately 30s as each one passed. I was setting a new personal best at 5K each time I ran
a trial. I knew I'd become faster than I had been before at this short distance, but was still worried about sustaining any pace to go the distance for the upcoming ultra. The day came after an uneventful and p
Glitch
Stopped syncing to Garmin. Tried logging out and back in- disconnecting and reconnecting. For example is I run with my husband (not in training plan) the system stopped importing the information to shift my training plan. I thought that was one of the big purposes of this app?
Structure and training geared for ME!
As a solid 37-39 minute 5K-er, 66 yo female, plagued with injury, I began RunDot in June 2023 with a 5K time goal of 33 minutes. May 2024 I hit my goal time of 33 minutes!! It took me almost a year because I had respiratory setbacks but NO injuries. The program dialed my training in or back with each illness/recovery which is not what you can expect from any cookie-cutter program out there. I love the structure of the program as I train injury free by doing the right training right!
I wasn’t sure I would like the structure, because let’s get real here, I’m old enough to do what I want, but structure was exactly what I needed! The workouts are geared to YOU based on YOUR workout data.
Horrible
Don’t waste your money. They have runs that are based off of pace, HR and power. However there zones for pace, power and HR have not correlation. I was set to do a power based run where I was to run 9:30 min mile which would never fall into the zone of 213-230 watts. They also send pace to your watch but then they really mean grade adjusted pace. So if we can’t actually do the run as intended are we really doing the plan as it was meant to be? Needs lots of work.
Trust the Process
I started training with RunDot in November 2023. I have asthma and contracted Covid 19 twice in 2022. RunDot helps keeps athletes safe, healthy & strong, which are incredibly important for longevity in running. The data optimized training allows for a personalized experience so that athletes can make sustainable progress. Training with RunDot helped me improve my time in the marathon by 29 minutes. As a result, I feel more confident & empowered. Special shout out to Cindy in support-she’s always so responsive, patient & helpful.
Great app
This training has been a game changer in my speed and endurance!
Great program to improve running!
I love this training program. I have been using it for about 9 months at this point. My goal is to run 5ks faster while also occasionally doing some 5 milers and 10ks. I have cut nearly 4 minutes off my 5k pace since starting this program. Rather then just running by time or distance, I love the intervals and all the different runs that keep things interesting and keep me improving! I also appreciate that it tailors my program for the different upcoming races so I always know exactly what I need to do and when.
Great training program
I have been using RunDot since June 2023. I was having heart rate issues and struggling to run paces that prior to heart rate issues (long covid) would have been considered easy. My sub 4 hour marathon seemed impossible due to high heart rate and difficulty breathing. Since training with RunDot, I have run 3:56 at the age of 60. I enjoy the training and the accountability that goes along with it. Because I travel to hot and humid climates for family commitments, the Ap also adjusts trainings for temperature, dew point, and terrain. I would highly recommend RunDot to runners of all abilities.
High 5!
Highly recommend RunDot - it has truly changed how I go about planning my training and optimized the time I spend running to ensure I am getting the most out of every run! I especially love that I have access to a coach who is able to share his insights and expertise as a former professional runner!!
Been using a year and continue to make gains
Uses AI to create and adjust a training program to attain goals. Not only has my run time/pace increased significantly, I continue to make gains while staying injury free. Strength workouts are never the same and never boring. 10 out of 10, recommend.
