We have enhanced our digital editions (where possible) to bring the content to life by embedding animations, video and interactive tools to help illustrate the key points and skills from our popular books. Download this free app to browse the eBook editions – you can also try free taster versions of many eBooks, so you can try before you buy.
These eBooks are a great resource supporting our world famous RYA Training Courses such as those within the trademark RYA Yachtmaster Scheme, the RYA Powerboat Scheme and the RYA Dinghy Sailing & Windsurfing Schemes among others. You will find eBooks of essential and recommended titles along with plenty of further reading and development, whether you’re starting to sail by taking a Competent Crew course, taking things further with a Day Skipper course or taking your RYA Yachtmaster exam – whatever you need, we’ve got it covered!
There are great examples throughout our range of our use of interactive content in areas such as seamanship, boat handling, passage planning, knots and stability but you’ll find something very special in our editions for:
• Collision Regulations – where we've developed over twenty interactive 360° lights and shapes tool to provide readers a more realistic way of viewing how vessels will actually present themselves in a wide variety of contexts, at four different times of day covering both day and night.
• VHF – where we’ve created animated examples of the voice procedures in the RYA VHF Handbook and also linked the content to sample questions to help students pass the RYA SRC exam.
• Navigation – where we’ve developed a special tool to replicate using the tidal curves in the RYA Training Almanacs to help students taking shorebased navigation courses.
Although these eBooks are designed for tablets, we’re still keeping smart phones very much in mind. This way, you’ll still be able to access the enhanced interactive content on the smaller devices even if you feel you wouldn't read a book on something so small.
There’s plenty for instructors as well with not only the interactive content, that can be used as demonstrations and enhanced learning on and off the water. There are also a whole host of useful features, (which we’re always evolving) such as bookmarking, note taking and inter-edition linking that will help you manage the content you want to support the way you teach.

The RYA should be better than this

I am a RYA member and have been for a number of years . I have had trouble with app in the past . Also buy via Apple and not the content is not available elsewhere . Now updated books/ new versions make the old ones not available on my iPad .. A brand such as the RYA should hold better standards than this app provides I regret not purchasing printed material and feel hard done by.

Hopeless - app won’t even download

Trying to get my VHF ebook - never come across such complicated instructions in my life and now th app won’t even download. Frustrated greatly understates how I feel.

Can’t login

This app needs updating ASAP. It doesn’t allow me to login, and I can’t reset my password either. I have an e-book redemption voucher which I can’t get access to. Not a great experience.

Book update bug

Unstable app, when a book update is available I am unable to access the old version or update due to some xml error. Only option is to remove app and reinstall. Save yourself the effort and buy paper books!

Lost all purchases!

I’ve gone back into the app after buying over half a dozen books in the past and I can’t access them anymore! It’s asking for a sign in which I don’t have! Never had! So I’ve lost 100’s of ££’s worth of books! 😡

Convoluted, complex, incomprehensible

The most convoluted, unworkable palaver I have ever come across to purchase and open an ebook. Completely unresponsive.

App is happy to take the money but not provide the content

I purchased the VHF handbook. The funds were taken but the app says I own nothing. Now I’ll need to raise it as a fraudulent transaction which is hassle I do not need!

Book update bug outstanding

The content and app are great, it would be 5 stars apart from the already noted update bug. This is tedious. You can guarantee that when you want to look something up quickly and you are in patchy coverage it will want to update. Say no and the app crashes, say yes and the update crashes. Delete the app, reinstall and re-download all content… This is a serious bug for an app that invites £100’s of purchases for use in areas where coverage is poor:

Downloaded app, then my 6 purchased titles, all working as expected (on an iPad Pro). Hopefully will not encounter problems when updating or adding more titles.

Feels like a scam

I paid for an ebook on here for £15, and have checked that the money has gone out of my bank account, but when I click on the book now, It just tells me to buy it again! Feels like a broken vending machine. It’s a waste of time, much better to but the actual books on amazon or elsewhere.
