** HOW DOES IT WORK? **
Scan a product on the shelf or at home.
Point your phone camera at the barcode - Scrapp instantly tells YOU how to dispose of it correctly by:
- Displaying simple instructions like “Recycle,” “Do Not Recycle,” or “Sort Packaging.”
- A step-by-step guide that shows which bin each packaging part should go in.
- Motivational messages that make you feel like a recycling hero.
** LOCAL GUIDANCE FOR 97M+ PEOPLE **
Scrapp automatically saves your local recycling rules to give you the most accurate guidance. Our partnerships with program managers ensure that any changes can be instantly updated in the app.
** TRACK YOUR IMPACT **
View a breakdown of products you’ve scanned. Track progress towards your low-waste goals and get actionable insights about your recycling efforts.
** FIGHT PLASTIC POLLUTION TOGETHER **
So far, Scrapp has been successfully used to divert over 10,000 items from ending up in landfill - and we’re just getting started.
Each time you use the Scrapp App to recycle right, you also remove ocean-bound plastic. That’s because we’re teaming up with the World’s Leading Plastic Action Platform, rePurpose. With their help, we’re making it possible for you to remove ocean-bound plastic - one scan at a time.
** 100K+ PRODUCTS SO FAR **
We work directly with brands and retailers to use their data for good. But you can help others to recycle right too. Because each time you submit new packaging information, it gets added to our library and shared with the rest of the community.
** DISCOVER SUSTAINABLE BRANDS **
Look out for the green verified tick next to brands in the app - it means the information you’re seeing comes straight from one of our verified brand partners.
We’re proud to be helping sustainable brands & retailers clear up confusing environmental claims and make more responsible products that have a positive impact on the planet.
** WHERE DOES THE APP WORK? **
Scrapp supports local guidance in the following areas:
United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland)
USA (California, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island)
Good news - you can still use the app even if we don’t support local guidance in your area yet. You’ll see general advice that is correct for most places.
Our goal is to empower the entire world with free, local, and accurate recycling guidance. So we appreciate your patience as we work tirelessly towards this mission.

Scrapp is simply scrap everyone knows in my local authority to recycle ♻️ plastics, metal cans and glass bottles plus carb board. What is the point of this application if you already know all those things. Before you could search up items that you were unsure of recently a light bulb for me with the old RE3 application that has slowly ultimates met its untimely death-so now I have simply created a short cut to the look up on the website. Like others have mentioned it did not even recognise the packaging for a light bulb and it would seem like a lot of things the product range and outgrown the database, I see very little people updating the database to especially when it is like this. For me a lot of people like my mom are not very tech savvy at all and not even think about using something like this. Once again an utterly useless application that has replaced an already faulty one. Am I wrong in thinking that the old application must have been run by people to lazy to keep to application la database up to date with what we can and can not recycle ♻️ so that has been discontinued to be replaced by an application that we already know what categories we can recycle ♻️ metal, glass, cardboard the list goes on bar toxic waste I can imagine which is a no brainer. It is as if people are to lazy to do there jobs and are now relying on people to do there jobs and update their database with the products as can and can not recycle making this application essentially useless like human beings are slowly being assimilated and amalgamated into some sort of AI program to do the automation for the last buggers who should be doing this already. A loss of service and sorry we are not robots 🤖 or ever will be! What are we paying our council taxes and increased rates for apart from a loss of service. I liked to have the ability to look up what I can through in the bin if it was bicycle lights and such and where to go and now we literally have this trash garbage 🗑️ You are better off creating a shortcut to your screen to the RE3 database look up then this in my opinion as I already know what is on the database which is everything I can recycle pretty much seems a bit stupid to look up items you already know are and are not recyclable considering the breadth of this application. Who’s brain 🧠 child was this anyway ?

App has a lot of bugs

The app often fails to open iOS 17.4 The setup went well no issues I scanned my first barcode, but the product was not found. I was surprised as the item was a common product. Then, I was asked a lot of technical questions about the packaging. I don’t think your average Joe would have such knowledge. So, I guessed which kind of defeats the purpose of the app. On contacting Scrapp about the scanning feature Scrapp's response was “ This is something we are working on, and we hope to make more products available soon. Any brand and retailer is allowed to upload completely for free and we have solid product coverage mainly in the USA. What makes getting a high product hit rate increasingly difficult is that if an item has a slightly different size it has a separate barcode.” Good idea but needs to be foolproof or no incentive to use it.

As I always do, I searched for the app by name rather click the link provided by entering my local recycling centres name of ‘re3’. But I it odd that the first result was for some sort adult swinging club called… re3! I didn’t notice in the eMail that it’s actually called ‘scrapp’! I knew something was wrong because being a pensioner I somehow think I’m a bit too old to start ‘swinging’ now 🤣

QR code on the economist but then does not recognise anything and cannot enter manually. Shame but am sure it’ll get better.

Doesn’t do any thing

Directed to this app by a QR code on a newspaper I subscribe to to see how to get rid of the wrapping it comes in. Can’t search by item, told to scan a barcode that hasn’t been put on the newspaper.

Good idea but weak on accuracy

This has the potential to be a great app but for one fundamental flaw. It relies on users to create the database which in turn, relies on everyone entering data to be 100% accurate. That’s never going to happen and incorrect data will result in other people either recycling what they shouldn’t or not recycling what they should. Added to that, it is not immediately obvious how to correct errors and even when you do discover how to do this the app won’t always let you save the edits. The only options then are to either leave it or report the error to the developers but this is tedious especially as it seems to be the case for about 50% of the items in the database, however, most products I have recycled haven’t actually been listed in the first place.

Good idea in principle!

Good idea in principle! Unfortunately I scanned 5 different items & had to add the information myself for all 5. I’ve read previous comments & I’m aware this is a reasonably new app, so adding vast amounts of data takes time. It’s just a shame, as I hoped at least 1 item I scanned may already be added. Also you can’t search for any items without a barcode, so scanning fruit etc is not possible. Be interesting to see how this app develops but for now it’s seems it’s work in progress unfortunately. Hence 3 stars.

Great idea but poor in practice

Ruthinian on

Vereinigtes Königreich

This is such a good idea to help us recycle more but in practice the database of products is far too small. Have had it on my phone for a while but probably 90% of the products I’ve scanned have not been found. Have now deleted the app as just too frustrating.
