Scrivo 3 - Scrivener Companion

I paid £9.99 on the understanding that it would open Scrivener files. I tried with iCloud, I tried with Dropbox, all sorts of combinations in different folders and with different names. Every attempt was met with a greyed out Scrivener file. Ergo, I wasted £9.99. I emailed the developers. No reply. On first opening the app it invited me to ‘upgrade’ to a free notetaking app. When I downloaded it, on first opening it asked me to pay £4.99. No way. Disappointed isn’t the word for it. I had really hoped this would be a viable alternative to Scrivener. No way. It only gets one star because I couldn’t send the review without putting a star in.

It requires a dedicated folder on Dropbox to sync the scriv files, which is not much use if you have scriv files all over Dropbox within relevant folders. It doesn’t recognise aliases and does not update with Dropbox properly, not least because it says there are no scriv files in the dedicated folder on Dropbox (which has fully synced), whereas there are (and they are not aliases). It provides no benefit over using Scrivener directly. A waste of money and I would like my money back.

I really liked my scrivener until they start charging for updates. I am not keen to spend nearly fifty pounds for an update. How often are they going to charge again.....AND AGAIN ? I used to have PC, but with their annual upgrades being charged for it pays to use a Mac which may be a little more expensive at first, but a lot cheaper in long run if you don’t have to pay for updates every year or so as on PC.

Despite the very cheeky name, this has no relationship to Scrivener at all. It is yet another version of notes filed in books and I’m fairly sure that it is a straight copy of a notes app I had, with a different name. So much for advantages of buying in App Store.

Bought this because it says it works with iCloud... Don’t get your hopes up as it doesn’t sync with Scrivener despite what it implies. What it does do is require that you export the manuscript and then copy it in to a specific folder in iCloud. That’s not syncing and it renders the iPad app useless if you are away from your MacBook and want to work on the document.

I’ve wasted a day on this, trying to sync my Scrivener for PC projects with Scrivo Pro on my iPad Pro via Dropbox, then iCloud, installing/reinstalling and generally ending up with empty documents or hieroglyphics. I need to be writing and so I’ve given up. No Scrivener on iPad for me, alas. Will just have to stick to the PC version (which is very good) and copy and paste back to the PC from Word for iPad, as I used to do. Very disappointed and a complete waste of money. And Help is way too complicated and long-winded.

I've written two books on the predecessor to this app - Textilus. I was very happy with it then found because of an IOS update it was no longer compatible. The Textilus people - who I find very helpful - gave me this: it works just as well. I have limited technical knowledge so copied and pasted work in progress from Textilus to Scrivo Pro. It was a nuisance and I expect there is a better way but it did work. I find sending to Dropbox a bit easier than it was. Altogether - a very useful app.

I reported a problem getting drawings to appear, fixed in a few days. Really great support. I’m using this for a book, published articles and it’s replaced my day book where I make notes of all of my meetings. This together with scrivener for MacOS is a top top app.

It barely work, shame ‘cause i like the app.

I purchased this app, believing the promises that it works with Scrivener, and found, in practice, this claim was not true and in fact it was just an awkward kludge. It did not deliver where it counted and is an app which I have deleted as of no value to me.
