Fantastic Game!

A really fun game that is very thematic. Don’t be put off by other reviews claiming it’s too complex or difficult (it’s not, and this is coming from someone that’s never played the physical version). You play as a team of heroes each with their own unique deck of cards that form their abilities playing against a villain deck along with an environment deck. On your turn you can play a card, use a power on one of your cards already in play, and then draw a card (or skip steps 1 & 2 to draw two cards instead). Villains each have their own unique deck and will play cards, activate their cards in play and generally do nasty stuff to you on their turns. Between the heroes and villain turns the environment (again, each with its own unique deck) will get a turn putting hazards/events into play that the heroes will need to deal with. Villains, heroes, and environment decks can each be mixed and matched for a ton of different combinations. The strategy comes from clever card play/combinations and managing the multiple threats while trying to reduce the villain’s life to zero. Lots of great strategy and interesting decisions to make.

Good level of complexity, expansions very expensive

This is an adaptation of the coop card game. Hence, the difficulty is high, the idea being that you lose several times in order to work out the best way to beat the boss you are fighting. Random draws from the deck serve to keep the gameplay fresh on repeat playthroughs. I enjoy the game, but the complexity is quite high. There is a reasonable amount to learn before you can really get to grips with the heroes, villains and environments that you fight in. The save feature is solid, meaning you can put the game down and pick up again hours or days later. Lastly this game is cheap to buy into but quite expensive to collect. The virtual version is still much cheaper than the physical version. But with expansion passes being £20 plus, it’s quite a big ask for virtual content imo. I doubt I’ll be buying any of them. The core game has a reasonable amount of content to it. Probably consider buying the expansions if you LOVE the main game. Buy if: you like complex strategy games You like the theme of heroes versus villains You like card games You want a cooperative game - you can take turns playing each of the heroes. Don’t buy if: Overly complex games frustrate you. You want something pick-up and play. This game requires a time investment to learn. Rng annoys you. There is a reasonable amount of randomness to the game, which may frustrate some.

Too hard

Needs more environments that do more to hinder the villains rather than leaning towards aiding the villain and giving you an extra obstacle to overcome. Any player would opt for 'no' environment given the choice. Needs more decent heroes that can boost your team to balance it out. Most of the heroes are 'over thought' with abilities too reliant on unlikely combinations. Simply too hard on anything over level 2 without relying on the same 'legacy' led team every time. Basically an easier mode on every villain would add four stars on straight away... As it is... Frustratingly hard

Really good game

Beautiful graphics and unusual gameplay, but would it be possible to put an option for lower quality or less assets so it doesn't eat the best part of a gigabyte?

Super fun!

I have had such a great time playing this; challenging, adventurous, with balanced powers and play, I am looking forward to testing out new teams! Thoroughly recommended, and nearly as fun as playing it for real. It has frozen once, but restarted with no problems or loss, I am more than happy and have no complaints. Enjoy!

Great card game

Not familiar with the physical release of this game, but I liked the theme of it and it looks well put together. After a few games I was hooked, the different roles that you make your team up with drastically change how you approach a battle. Plenty of variety and easy to recommend.

Great version

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this as a solo experience. If you enjoy the board game this seems like a no brainer, allowing to try out a team quickly and easily. It does remind you how lean the original game was - more content please :-). It gets a ding for the frequent crashes - it recovers so could be worse, but does need to be addressed.

Almost great

This game is perfect.....except it crashes every 10 secs, pleas fix it. Please, I really want to play it.

Superb game, getting killed by crashes...

Gazzauzar on

This game is beautiful, fantastic artwork, great theme... But it crashes constantly! Iron those out and it is potentially the best tabletop conversion ever!

True to the card game

Rikdom on

True to the original card game but even quicker and easier to use/play . I have played a dozen games with 0 crashes, so can’t fault it.
