I use this every time I have new music to learn. It is such good value.
I couldn’t afford an expensive app like the full versions of Smartscore or PhotoScore so began by looking at the cut-down midi version of SmartScore. The demo worked well but still wasn’t ready for Mac OS Catalina. I went looking for IOS apps that might do the same job as the SmartScore Midi and found this! Wow. I’ve thrown scans of old music and PDFs at it and Music Scanner has performed so brilliantly I’m not going to bother with desktop apps. I haven’t tried taking a photo of a score in the app yet. I have a scanner so it’s easy enough to create PDFs. Really old music produces inaccurate results - but the same happened in SmartScore. Music Scanner allows me to save what it interprets into a variety of formats including music XML ready to import into my notation app. Perfect. Yes - it doesn’t import the lyrics but for an app that is only about a tenth of the cost of SmartScore Midi... Well - I’m happy. Lyrics are easy enough to type in later. I’m the music librarian in a small community choir which specialises in old music. Sometimes we can’t find notation files for our repertoire. Up until now, I’ve had to enter the notes manually into a notation app. Not anymore!
This is good music scanning app! It really helps me practice my parts for orchestra. It’s not perfect and can occasionally miss notes, inaccurately interpret rests as notes, and can miss repeats, but it works well enough for me for most part (problematic parts occur more often with fainter ink on the paper scanned though). One thing I think would be really great to have is an optional metronome tick sound and count in to help me keep time with the music and start with a count in to selected locations on the music. I also think it would be nice to have additional text box area to write composer and the arranger since arrangements can vary.
I use this app almost everyday. It works even on screenshots. It’s so worth the money.
This app does what it says it will do. It will scan a piece of music and you can transpose it to a different key. Exactly what I want.
This gets me clean scans so fast. Easy to use. Love it!!!
Why people would continue to accept a subscription based service in 2024 is beyond me. Don’t support this predatory payment model.
I don’t normally write reviews but this thing is amazing. Only thing is they should add more instrument options (for those who play baritone just pick tuba it sounds similar). But seriously an amazing app.
I love this app! I frequently use it as a necessary step to transpose music for B flat trumpet. It does an amazing job of capturing notes from a clear image. I do wish that this app was available for iMac. Keep up the good work!
But it only isolates each staff. If more than one note on a staff it plays all of them... which unfortunately makes the app not usable for the reason I downloaded it.
