SSH Files – Secure ShellFish

The perfect tool for an old UNIX pro.

The feature list of this app is insane. And importantly they work! The experience of being able to drag the cursor around the screen and have it translated to cursor key, keypresses to move the cursor within the terminal is flawless. With the ability to select a file name from a text listing and for the app to recognise it as a file and provide file transfer options is incredible. If this was also available in a desktop environment I’d buy that version as well. (Hint hint). Any questions I’ve had have been responded to promptly. In short best mobile ssh experience I’ve ever had.

Quality.

I keep my docs on my own server and this lets me seamlessly share them across multiple computers and my iPad. An essential app!

Gets out of the way and acts magically as you’d expect it to, completely transparently. The iPad/iOS server setup syncing is a nice bonus. I’ve had a couple of issues shifting multi-gigabyte files, where I can’t tell if it’s continuing or not - I end up with lots of fragments of uploaded temporary files. For this usage, I will panic and transmit using a different app which isn’t as seamless but handles continuation of large files better. But for shifting smaller files around using the files app, and for the whole system integration, this is unbeatable. Heartily recommended.

Quality.

Shellfish is just fantastic, everything about it feels so carefully crafted. It’s developed and grown so much in the time I’ve used it and is clearly a case of someone caring about the quality of their product.

This has got to be the most seamless way to access remote files. Now all apps have access to the files and folders on my servers and other computers as if I were using a Mac. It's a small app that multiplies the functionality of my iPhone and iPad.
