Story Tracker Lite

Writer's Submission Tracking

Veröffentlicht von: Andrew Nicolle

Beschreibung

Story Tracker makes keeping track of your submitted stories, novels, poems, scripts, and articles easy. Never wonder again where or when you submitted your work. The information is all right there on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch!
** Note: This is the free Lite version of Story Tracker. The Lite version is almost identical to the full version, but only allows you to store up to 5 stories, 5 markets, and 5 submissions. It also includes database backup and export over WiFi (but not restore/import), allowing easy upgrade to the full version. The full version has no such limitations. **
Whether you're a working freelance writer, a hobbyist, or something in-between, Story Tracker is a valuable addition to your writing toolbox. Many magazines, journals, or other markets for your work don't allow simultaneous submissions. When you're juggling dozens or even hundreds of stories, it's easy to make an embarrassing mistake. Keeping track of it all can soon become a nightmare.
Here's what you can do with Story Tracker:
* Track submissions of all your writing: stories, poetry, novels, articles, scripts, screenplays, and more.
* Store details and guidelines for any market accepting written submissions: magazines, book publishers, journals, agencies, websites, movie studios, or even one-off writing competitions or anthologies.
* Add details for each story, including title, word-count, genre, and notes.
* View total income earned for each story.
* 'Trunk' stories to hide them from the story list when creating submissions.
* View the submission history for each story, sorted by date.
* Displays story status icons.
* Add details for each market, including title, genre, editor, deadline & more.
* Launch email or phonecalls directly from market details.
* Highlights approaching market deadlines on the market list.
* Hides closed markets from the market list when creating submissions.
* View submission history for each market, sorted by date.
* View response times for each submission.
* Add details for each submission, including story, market, sent/response due/response dates, withdrawn status, and notes.
* Response due dates are calculated automatically based on market response time & submission sent date, or can be overridden.
* Past due submissions are flagged with an exclamation mark on the story & submission screens.
* Past due submissions are highlighted on the submission list.
* Store income earned for each submission.
* Database statistics
* Protect your data with a passcode lock.
* Database backup & export over WiFi to your computer's web browser, Story Tracker for Mac, and Story Tracker for PC.
* CSV format support to export your Story Tracker database to desktop spreadsheet applications.
* iPad support at no extra charge!

An excellent tool!! I use it right now to track contests. One addition I would make would be to add a field for when contests--and submissions open. However, this app is great. I have it on my Mac., iPad, and iPhone. Once I figured out the syncing, it is such a breeze and very reliable. Thank you so much!

This is a brilliant & novel tool that reminds me why I got my smartphone & tablet! It's a great modern-day replacement (or supplement) to old-timey spreadsheets & calendars. I've published fairly widely years ago and I hope to return to my first professional love of writing. I'd like to consider this app after tooling around with the Lite version for a while, but I have a few reservations I hope to write to the dev about. From his website & reviews, he's a writer & app programmer who takes pride in his product. Here're my three cents: * Price point for full version at $7.99 is a bit steep for me in the present--imagine the cost for starving artists! 😔 I hope there are occasional sales in the future. This would help entice fence-sitting prospects like me. * Copyrights. This is HUGE. Amateurs are so worried about simply getting published they often sell all rights. After passing that developmental milestone in one's writing career, the pros realize they need to keep & track their copyrights. This is VITAL. Yes it can be put in Notes, but it really needs to be prominent--It's how you make your living!!! Maybe a customizable spinner like in the Genres section, but with customizable rights options; something like "100% rights sold" "First North American serial rights only" "Film rights" etc. * Queries. This also separates many pro writers from aspiring beginners. Many pros write Queries first THEN write the story. I'd like to see a way of tracking query letters just like the app has it set up for stories, but then give the chance to convert the query to a story. This mimics more real-world writing for me, since many professional writers aren't working tirelessly on completing actual projects before knowing the project has a buyer. Otherwise...well, remember the Starving Artist part??? 😃

Easy to use, and very flexible

I can think of a feature or two I'd like added, but it only took me ten minutes to decide to upgrade to the full version. The app is clearly useful to me as a writer, and I like how one can add genres and notes, in order to expand on the app's pre-set offerings.

Great tracking tool

Wonderful way to keep on top of your stories. I would like to see a Passcode or Password added for protection of our work/keep prying eyes away. Please add! Thanks in advance!

Won't Work

Create story - fine. Create Market - fine. Try add submission. Nada.

A little confusing at first, but overall a good tracker for your pieces.

Great app. I really love how easy it is to use. Wish I could use my own background picture :( . But it does serves it's purpose!

Deskstop version?

This would work better as a desktop version where most of us write our stories and articles. Good idea though.

A very cool app that I'd love to use regularly, but...

I really like the concept of this application, and it looks great. The data it tracks -- stories out on submission, where they on submission, and when I sent them -- is just the sort of stuff I need to keep up with. I also love the statistics page, and the days waiting for each story on the Stories page. I'd really like using this app, though I feel the price is a bit too high for what it does. To justify the $10 price tag (which is the same price I paid for Appigo's ToDo app, a more robust app, which I currently use to track story subs), I'd like to see Story Tracker do more of the heavy lifting for me. I would buy this app in a heartbeat if it had all the markets already loaded. As it is, I've got to type in all that myself. I know that's a huge task, but maybe some sort of RSS feed between the app and the various sites' submission pages? Or just start with the top-paying spec-fic apps, and work your way down? Also, an IMPORT tool would be awesome. I don't want to have to type in all my stories. I'd love to have all my subs stored in this app, but I have over 700 from the past decade. :) Also, I'd like the app to be a bit more user-friendly. Some of the features are hard to use. You have to type in the market first, before you can connect it to a story. You should be able to click the Submission History button on a Market record and jump to a list of markets or create a new market on the fly. It'd be nice to have a drop list of genres to choose from in the Genre field, instead of typing it each time. Also, I didn't like having to press Done to select something from a list -- just touching the item should add it to the list. Lots of little drawback like this will keep me from using this app regularly. But I really want to use it.
