Simplified Tai Chi 24 for Beginners DVD is the perfect way to experience the amazing health benefits of a shortened tai chi form, no matter your current fitness level. The ancient art of tai chi is often described as “moving meditation” because it stimulates your mind, body, and spirit.
The simplified 24-posture form is taught and demonstrated in detail by Master Helen Liang in short, easy-to-follow sections. This popular form is shown clearly from multiple angles, with step-by-step instructions.
With this 6-minute tai chi form, you’ll feel stronger and more energized. Tai chi is known for improving balance and keeping the mind sharp and positive. This tai chi form is excellent for beginners at any age, those who want a low-impact whole-body exercise, and those with limited time.
The short forms are based upon traditional Yang-style Tai Chi movements, which have roots in the ancient Chinese martial arts. "Taiji Chang Quan" existed in many variations, and eventually evolved into Taijiquan. Other forms of the same era such as "Heavenly-Inborn Style", "Nine Small Heavens", and "Acquired Kung Fu" also show similarities to what later became Taijiquan. The principles of softness, sticking, adhering, and using the opponent's own momentum against himself were established in these precursory martial styles. Bodhidharma's teaching at the Buddhist Shaolin Temple around 550AD, which detailed the theory of using the mind to lead the Qi to energize the physical body, is widely considered the origin of all Internal Martial Arts, including Tai Chi.
Helen Liang is a gold medal winning grandchampion martial artist, and daughter of a true martial arts legend. Grandmaster Liang, Shou-Yu's martial arts ancestry originated five generations ago. He started his traditional Emei kungfu and Qigong training with his grandfather in 1948. Grandmaster Liang then sought out other renowned masters and other styles from Shaolin and Wudang. In the early sixties, Grandmaster Liang began his study and research in the few major styles of Taiji such as Yang, Chen, Sun, and Wu style, Buddhist Esoteric Qigong, and Taoist Qigong. Grandmaster Liang has many times been a gold medalist in Wushu and Taiji competitions held in Sichuan province. The Liang family lives and teaches in Vancouver, Canada.

Requesting to add a mirror view like the DVDs have

Much respect to Helen, thank you for the videos and the app. I think it would be helpful to have the mirror view demo installation in the app (like the DVD has) I get lost trying to follow along and mirror myself!

Real tai chi 24 form, with easy lessons

Her father was involved with the creation of this 24 form in the 70s in China. This is the most accurate teaching of the 24 form you will find. Great traditional tai chi video lessons, w incredible step by step detail, broken down in small sections to learn perfectly. Over 2 hours for $9.99usd, normally $30 on DVD.

Excellent instruction

Very detailed and well-demonstrated. I taught myself this form 20 years ago using the book published by the Chinese Sports Authority IND in 1988. But I had stopped and forgotten it. I bought this to use as a refresher. The instruction is excellent and detailed. Two additions beyond the books content are brief demonstrations of the martial applications; and emphasis on hand positions. Do not be discouraged if it seems confusing at first. It is complicated and takes time and effort. Keep at it and you will learn the form certainly and well.

It appears that the instructor is very good. However I’m unable to get the videos to download to my iPad. I have tried several times and my IPad software is up to date. I’m using hotel WiFi... maybe that’s affecting it somehow.

Difficult to follow

Good things first—Master Helen Liang does a wonderful job presenting the movements. She makes a great teacher. What I don’t like: First of all the only thing free is a brief introduction. Since I liked the introduction, I purchased the app, but it would be better if there were more free content. I’m sure many viewers are put off with having to make a quick decision without a lot of facts. My big difficulty is trying to follow the movements. Maybe this is my fault, but I doubt that I’m the only one. As I said the teacher does a great job explaining and demonstrating the movements, but I am constantly confusing left and right. When I position my body to be more in sync with hers, then I can’t see the screen without twisting my neck. I wish they had used a split screen showing both front and back views. I think that would have been very helpful.

Just what I was looking for

Coming on 66 with some physical ailments, I could no longer do my karate. With an inner ear problem I had to quit yoga. I had always admired the grace of Tai Chi and thought this would be the time to start. Master Liang's style of teaching is an excellent combination of show and tell. It's especially good when I missed something visually but she points out a little detail which is important. Breaking it up into individual videos makes learning each section easier to find what you need. The $9.99 price is a small price to pay for such a well designed teaching app.

Exactly what I wanted

IMO absolutely worth $10. Instruction is very detailed. Hand and foot movements are broken down separately. I’m brand new to Tai Chi and found other beginner videos to be very confusing but not this one. I’ve had some trouble with the video stopping and buffering but that’s probably the fault of my WiFi.

This "free" app is really an "appmercial", contains...

wolf-at-large on

This "free" app contains only a single free all-talk blah-blah-blah clip, and it's just a teaser to buy the real teaching videos. Which might be good or not, I still don't know! They should at least have included 30-seconds samples of the paid videos. Not very smart! Wasted my time.

Nice 6 minute intro video. Any other videos needed to actually learn anything or to use the app require $9.99 fee. This is NOT a free app with "in app purchases "

App requires your email for registering. App consists solely of a 2 minute intro., then requires $10 to access lessons
