Like everything else in the USA this inflation is ridiculous, and these developers are on board with taking every cent from families who need the help. My son is nonverbal and he uses this app but it constantly signs him out requiring me to troubleshoot. On top of that they FORCED USERS INTO A SUBSCRIPTION, why not sell the app like before? All these reviews & comments all saying the same. Shame on you.
I had to reset my son iPad. It’s now requiring me to pay monthly to use the talk function.
Without warning, Tobii Dynavox has changed this application from a one-time purchase price of $100 to a subscription-based model of $10/month. This means all new users of this system will be milked for money FOREVER, as long as they need this application to communicate. Families with special needs will often require an application for that person's entire life, and if one used the app for even 5 short years, they would pay $600. If you were lucky enough to purchase it before this change, good luck. Otherwise, steer clear of this money pit. Other apps such as LAMP and Touch Chat are still one time purchases, but they are expensive. Wait for a sale in May or Black Friday if you can. TD, please revert this money-grubbing scummy practice and make communication affordable again.
Subscribing to allow special needs children access to communication? Seriously….
Back when Snap was a one-time purchase, it filled a unique niche in the market: a full-featured, somewhat robust, symbol-based AAC app at a relatively approachable price -- $50, relative to the $250-$400 that other apps cost. It was actually my own first iPad-based AAC app, and one I frequently recommended -- with reservations about the lack of robustness -- because it was financially accessible. The main downside to Snap is that even the newer Motor Plan vocabulary is sorely lacking in abstract concepts and shades of meaning. As a literate, semi-speaking AAC user, this is irritating and dysregulating; to younger AAC users, it could be a serious impediment to language and literacy development. Today, I use the new Proloquo, which has a vocabulary that simply beats the pants off every other symbol-based app, and is comfortably usable out of the box -- with some compromises in word choice -- by a literate user for a wide range of conversations. It is a subscription -- $10/month or $100/year -- but well worth the money to me. Having tried both apps, I find it downright *laughable* that Snap would think their app is worth the same monthly cost as Proloquo. It is also rather cruel that they gave zero notice of this change, sending potential new users back to square one if they had budgeted, fundraised, or arranged with school or insurance to cover the original price. There are other options here: If $50/user truly wasn't paying the bills, they could've doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled the price and remained an affordable choice. If a subscription was truly necessary for sustainable development, they could've charged $5/month and still earned the old price in subscription fees in less than a year. Please, TD, show your users some compassion. If your devices are truly as good as you say, you don't need to jack up the app cost for iPad users.
I payed for the full 50 dollars only for them to try and make me buy the stupid subscription. It’s shady and dumb that they would do this to people who already payed.
I purchased this for my wife who has lost her voice due to ALS. The rep was able to demonstrate the functionality using her iPhone and iPad. For unknown reasons and hours and hours of trying to make it work with our devices, we both agreed it does not work for us. Too bad, because the program is pretty feature rich but this is a “must work” so we will have to find something else.
