This was previously packaged as a book with DVD-ROM. The essence is still there, as all of the tutorials and charts can be printed out. David Garibaldi’s explanations and breakdowns of each song are invaluable. My only criticism is that the layouts of the transcriptions are sometimes difficult to read, with some note groupings crowded together and others spaced out, all within the same measure. So, beats one & two take up less space than beat three, with beat four halfway between in size.
Overall really nice package. It's nice to have the Overview, Chart and complete transcription. Band sounds great and everything is in sync. Two comments with constructive criticism in mind... 1. There are some portrait/landscape issues on the iPad. You can only get to full screen on the charts in landscape mode, and when you flip to navigate back you often return to a full screen pic of Garibaldi:) 2. Once you drop all the drum tracks out, there is no count in. I know the app info states that you can print the charts, but I like to play the tracks from my phone while reading the charts on the iPad. But #1 makes this a little frustrating. Overall these are sure fun to play, and the transcriptions also gives us some insight into d.g.'s innovative fills as well as the grooves we've come to love. Well worth the $$
It's a great App! What else can I say? Very useful for younger musician's as myself that didn't really grow up on funk so I kinda look at it as a funk coarse.
