Very frustrating functionality

So depressing that this media giant has such a frustrating app - always freezing and no reliability. Compared to the Guardian app it’s in the dark ages.

Disappointing

I recently subscribed to the New York Times, I hold subs for the Irish Times, the Irish Independent and I frequently use the guardian and I was very surprised to find the all of these provide a far better user experience, I had thought the NYT would be an industry leader here but it is most certainly not the case, it is really hard to find content on the site, menu is very poor. The content and the games are great though, just the app usability lets it down

Frustrating

This is easily the most frustrating and difficult to use News app I use. The content is great but there is no navigation menu to quickly move around the paper (a basic requirement I’d say). There is a limited set of static links that are buried on the bottom of the third page. The “For You” page is almost completely uncustomisable. If the developers could be bothered to look at the UK Guardians app you’d see one that is almost infinitely customisable by users if they want and the Irish Times app though not customisable has a clear menu to get around. Time for an upgrade…..

Do not subscribe, it's impossible to get out of!

Subscribed to the NY Times in 2020, I think and have found myself reading it less & less. Have now been trying to cancel my subscription, but there is no email address to do this, you have to either call them or use the chat. I tried using the chat asked my question and was kept in the queue for the day without anybody answering. I even got sent a survey to feed back on my chat experience and had zero response to my negative feedback. The chat option now no longer comes up! Any previous email addresses come back with the message that they are no longer monitored! This is such poor customer service & really disappointing, makes you feel that they literally want to make it as hard as possible to leave. Really disingenuous.

Slow?

Is it iPad or is it the app? Like wading through tar using this app. Either way, next iPad will not be Apple.

Another Israeli mouth piece

Was always a fan of NYTimes quality journalism since 2016, was always impressed by it’s brave coverage and the ability to say the truth no matter what the cost is. Until now, I was utterly surprised by its biased coverage to what happened in Palestine, Jerusalem and Gaza. I was surprised by their campaign targeting the Hadid’s and Dua for saying the truth. Turns out mouth has a price.

Paywall!!!

HELP@HAND on

Irland

If you are interested in world affairs and in getting a balanced view of what’s happening in the world, you need to read more than one news source to help you to wade through all the political agendas of the individual outlets an the downright propaganda. Multiple sources is the only way to achieve this, so you can try to work out something resembling a balance. Unfortunately the NYT has now decided to put everything behind its paywall. This from my perspective means that I won’t be getting their particular slant on the news. Im not completely sure who the loser is here.

Lost many functionalities

I’m not sure which update caused this but i cant view my ‘saved for later’ articles anymore on ipad. Similarly ‘for you’ section somestimes doesnt load. I cant edit followed sections from the settings either. Slowly lost its usability for me

App is currently crashing on startup

Was happy with the performance of the app until this started happening. Also the link to app support is broken so I have to leave this here.

Awful (the app)

garrysull on

Irland

I’ve had a subscription with over two years, and I’ve always used the app when browsing on my phone. Since the last two updates the app has just been unusable. The two principal issues I have encountered are, firstly, that the home section no longer exists—t’s just advertisements—and, secondly, the app itself crashes if I scroll through the sections for much longer than a few seconds. Now I’ve just resorted to reading the paper on safari. This would be bearable except that the saved articles function doesn’t work, and that’s the main way I read the NYT every day. Please fix this. Quickly.
