As a subscriber I tried the app for 24 hrs before deleting it. It’s slow, the homepage takes an eternity to load plus it’s full of advertisements. I use Safari on iOS, can block ALL ads and it’s lightning fast. There is simply no added value that I can see by using the app.
Since a week or so when I’m scrolling through an article - nowhere near an advert a video of some advert will pop up taking over the whole screen. I PAY for a subscription and do not expect this rubbish. Any adverts that pop up like this put me off the company anyway!

“Try The Telegraph free for 1 month Unlock unlimited access to our website and exclusive app with a Digital Subscription. Cancel anytime.” It is not free. Subscribers wishing access all newspaper articles have to provide their credit card details which places the onus on them to opt out by cancelling the arrangement before the end of the trial if they do not wish payments to made from their credit card.
The Telegraph takes decisions to suspend and ban commenters based not on its published guidelines but on whether or not the views expressed are in line with their own politically biased agenda.
I deinstalled it as it seems to be pretty resource hungry for the function it fulfills.
The Telegraph was one of the first major newspapers with a good online edition way back in the 90s. It still lives up to that tradition - ironically by combining the best of a traditional newspaper layout adapted to convenient online use. And the content is - as always - top.
Quality reading, can recommend
After subscribing I just noticed this line when I click through the terms and conditions: “ The minimum subscription term is six months. Some promotional offers have a 12-month minimum term. Subscription offers cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. “ How does this reconcile with the offer which reads “Billed as one month free, 50p per month for two months, £12.99 per month thereafter. Cancel anytime”? Also, why does my email confirmation say “ First payment: £1.00 Date of first payment: March 18, 2022. Payment frequency: Monthly “? The offer said 50p but you change the amount on the fly to £1. Why? Then I go to the next page where it says: “ One month free, then just £1 per month for three months.” So now it’s 3 months for £1 per month? Before you said 2 months at 50p per month. Someone needs to proof read your marketing material.
