This is the official iPad edition of The United Methodist Hymnal (1989) authorized by The United Methodist Publishing House. The app includes page scans of the hymnal, powerful search capabilities, information about songs and their authors, and the ability to access several different versions of songs including pew, large print, lead sheet, and instrumental (strings, brass, and woodwinds).
This free app includes the 281 public domain songs in The United Methodist Hymnal. Through in-app purchases, you can add the following editions which includes all public domain and most copyrighted hymns:
• Pew edition for the complete hymnal* ($24.99)
• Keyboard edition for the complete hymnal** ($24.99)
• Large Print edition for the complete hymnal** ($19.99)
• FlexScore edition for the complete hymnal** ($99.99)
• Transposed editions (scores for specific instruments) for the complete hymnal** ($39.99)
• Individual FlexScores – one version of one song ($1.99)
• Individual FlexScores – all versions of one song ($9.99)

Many songs include links to resources for background information and for worship planning, such as related scripture passages, topics, worship notes on the text and tune, PowerPoint slides, and available choral and instrumental arrangements.
The search box allows you to search for songs by first line, author, composer, topic, or scripture passages quoted or alluded to. You can also jump immediately to a hymn by number.
Our revolutionary FlexScores are available for most songs. Through FlexScores you can adjust the music and text size of the scores, transpose the key, and change capo. The versions offered for FlexScores include pew, lead sheet, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, alto saxophone, soprano or tenor saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba. For instrumental versions, the music is transposed into an appropriate range and displayed in an appropriate clef for the instrument (based on the same part arrangement of the printed hymnal).
You may use the "setlist" feature to pre-arrange hymns in your preferred order (for example, the song sequence in a worship service). When you "play" the "setlist" you can go to the next pre-determined songs with one flip!
Flip the page with a foot pedal! With an optional, Bluetooth enabled, foot pedal (bought separately) you may turn pages back and forth using a compatible foot pedal. A great convenience for instrumental players!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- This app does NOT play any audio of hymns.
- A network connection is required to access hymn background information, and view most FlexScores.
- While editions (such as the Pew Edition or FlexScore Edition) of the hymnal can be transferred to other devices, individual FlexScores -- both the $1.99 and $9.99 versions -- cannot be transferred to other devices.
- Due to copyright permissions, we cannot display the following hymns in the app, even after you purchase one of the editions of the hymnal: 132, 161, 499, 632, and 728. We are continually working on gathering the necessary permissions to display such hymns.

Great app for those who use tablet for church music!

Frustrating

The app is certainly usable for certain things but I wish I had spent the money on a paper hymnal instead. It's inexcusable to be missing hymns and charge the same amount as a new printed hymnal (and quite a bit more than a used one, as the UMH has been in print for decades now) - and it's particularly inexcusable to not make this clear up front before purchasing. This means the app is not usable as a replacement for a print hymnal. The other frustrating thing is that the audio playback button fades out playback on the last few measures, to the point that the last few notes cannot be heard. I cannot imagine who would find this feature useful. I usually find myself better served by a web search or YouTube, especially for the public domain hymns. Sure, that doesn't give me every hymn in order and with the same arrangement and text - but neither does this app.

Outstanding App!

I purchased the pew version, and this app is really outstanding…great value, excellent functionality & reliability, and responsive support. The only suggestion I can think of is to add the official hymnal supplements (“The Faith We Sing” and “Worship & Song”).

setting options are greyed out and you can't change font size, stanzas, etc.

Great until version 3.5

I love having this hymnal on my iPad for playing at church, nut ever since version 3.5 my AirTurn Duo BT106 won’t turn the pages. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something I need to do to fix it? It is really difficult to turn the page manually, especially if it is a hymn that goes back and forth between 2 pages.

The Hymnal will not open

I have been using this Hymnal for several years with no problem. Today it will not open?? Not sure what is the problem. Does anyone else have this issue? This is an update about my issue. The problem was my iPad not the app. I rebooted the iPad, problem solved. This is a good app. Update 12/7/2022. The app is fine, it was my iPad that was the problem, need to reboot the iPad.

Do not like the new page layout

I loved this app before you changed to flip page instead of scroll down to complete the hymn. Why did you do that? I choose a hymn each morning to put in my journal. It is much easier to scroll down when copying and singing along with my music I have on my iPad. Please change it back. I pay for this. Please know I put all information in my journal as well as the source.

Purchases not coming through

This app was good. The latest update is not allowing me to access my purchases. Purchased the C cleft instruments, should be flute access? I wish to get this to save time instead of physically rewriting music for advent. Please get it together

Do NOT purchase!!!

I purchased the full version of this app, for $25, and my music never showed up. I contacted Apple and they said there was nothing they could do and that this was an app developer issue. I’ve tried for weeks to get ahold of the app developer and haven’t been able to, and now I’m out $25!!!!!

Last update was terrible

I use a STOMP WiFi page turner that has always worked fine with this hymnal. After the last update, though, I can now only page turn side to side from the first to the second page, and must manually SCROLL down to get back for the next verse, even though my STOMP is set on side to side page turn. This was all working perfectly before the update, which was a giant step backward.
