Trail Map
The map on CarPlay has lost track of my position even with downloaded maps. Not very helpful when you don’t where to turn on a trail.

Such a great app for off-roading. Incredible information. Suffers from a number of bugs/poor UX. Downloaded map areas perpetually say “Update Available,” but when you tap to update, it will briefly switch do a progress bar before again displaying “Update Available.” You can keep tapping and it will eventually say “Downloaded,” but you can still tap it and it will continue downloading and showing a progress bar. Did the offline content actually get updated? I have no idea. The CarPlay app struggles to follow your position. Why do you have to tell it to center to your position any time you do anything? You have to tap the arrow to center the map on your location. Then you have to manually select which trail you’re on (it should do this automatically). Then you have to tap the arrow again to get the app to follow as you drive. Is there no way to have CarPlay auto center on your location? I have to go through this rigamarole every time I unplug my phone from the car (which is often for photos). Tapping “Search for Trails” brings up the search function, but you have to tap the search bar again to actually search. It should pull up the keyboard soon as you tap the first time. Why is there no search filter on the app as there is online?
I use this app with GAIA for off road trips to find new trails or to give friend a sense of a trail difficulty and it is great for that! One request I have would be to be able to filter trails that you have favorited. Often I research trails in advance and save them, but I haven’t found a way to see those all on the map. This would be great so that if I’m in an area I could check the favorited maps in that area to see if one I’m interested in is near. A map filter for favorites would make this so much easier! Or even if the favorites maps showed a little different graphically It’s great that you can download trails straight to the GAIA app for import and use when you do not have service. You can also download the basic trail info for offline use directly in this app, but photos do not show offline unless they are in your cache.
Definitely my preferred off roading app. Lots of trails in Colorado (where I live) and use of app is very straightforward and intuitive. I really like that you can view up to date information left by other users regarding current trail conditions and status.
I love this app! It’s like AllTrails for off roading but more accurate. 😂 I have friends who have various vehicles, not all modded, so the recommended vehicle section is very helpful in finding suitable trails for them. The app gives you a lot of useful information to help select the right trail but also to navigate while on it. The waypoints are helpful for various things besides just navigating, like determining a good camping or lunch spot but also in finding out information about stuff along the trail you might have missed otherwise. The user reviews that can be added to each trail along with user rating on the accuracy of the trail rating is very helpful, especially as the weather can alter the trail / difficulty. There are additional features I like as well but overall, I'm a big fan of what they've done!
I’m not sure why there aren’t more reviews of this app but it’s amazing!! Great info , the step by step guide give you details on each obstacle or section of the trail. Also I was able to import the info from trails off road into my Gaia routes and all of the guidance for running the trail came with it. Awesome tool!!
The app showed zero trails within 200 miles of my. I’m 100% positive that there are dozens possibly hundreds of trails within a 200 mile radius. if you live in Eastern Washington or Idaho this app is useless.
Overall a decent trail map app. Definitely the best available as of now.
If you are looking for an off-road mapping app that is complete with detailed descriptions, photos, and user input, this is it. Not only that, but the Trails Offroad team is constantly adding more trails and provides updates on seasonal openings and closures, etc. Behind the scenes, they advocate for keeping trails open and protecting our ability to keep enjoying the sports we all love. I don’t think you can really ask for more than to have a great product AND people that care about the offroad community.
I have used this app in the state of Colorado and it has been absolutely fantastic. It’s extremely easy to use and is getting better and better with every update. I will continue to use this app.
