There is so much I missed in Venice because I visited there before this app was available! Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls have put together another beautifully presented, extensively researched, user-friendly app packed with little known facts and background stories, such as the role of the printing press in Venice. Included are links to even more detailed explanations, should the user want more, and maps marked with every place to see. Even though I discovered this app after my visit, to me it was fascinating to read these writers' presentation of places I did visit, and to learn, for example, the story of the famous miracle. If I had had their app at the time, I would surely have visited, and not overlooked, such places as the Breasts Bridge. Seeing so many vividly beautiful photos transported me back in time to my own Venice trip. Not only did I learn fascinating information about the places I remember, but I am now motivated to return to see all the places I missed.
Venice: Arts and Culture is another great app by experienced travel guide writers Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls. Major sections are devoted to Art and Culture, History and Sidelights, People, Places, Practical Information and Top Sights. There is great photography, iIrreverent comments, detailed maps and much more. See and read about: Saint Mark's Basilica, the Grand Canal and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Learn the exploits of Marco Polo, Casanova, Lord Byron, John Ruskin, and the Doges, along with the saints, prostitutes and courtesans who inhabited this magnificent city-state.This is a fantastic app that rivals any guidebook on the market. If you're headed to Venice, don't leave home without it.
We had a great stay in Venice… Which was made even better by this great app. Learning the nuances of the niche in history, art, architecture, and some of the amazing people that made it all happen, made our trip that much more meaningful. From the Lions at the arsenal to the top of the campanile there is so much great stuff to learn. We highly recommend this app.
I am a huge fan of Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls' travel writing and this APP does not disappoint! I own at least a dozen copies of their Cadogen guides, and it is such a joy to be able to travel with all of their knowledge, wisdom and humor, contained in an APP on my iPad! I plan to visit Venice soon and will have this wonderful APP as my guide as I plan my trip and during my travels. I urge any travelers to Venice to to this APP with them!
Beautifully written, meticulously researched, and easy to use - this app is such a useful app when visiting Venice. Highly recommended.
We've been to Venice many times, but these visits would have been a far richer experience if we had had this app! Now, instead of just boating down the Grand Canal looking at all the pretty buildings, I now know what's inside them and how I can visit them and what I will see. The authors, Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls, have written Cadogan guides for years, but now they've turned to sharing their wealth of knowledge with us via apps. This app is very well organized -- I found I could access any bit of information that I wanted on the spot with a quick tap of a finger tip. The writing style is the same as their Cadogan guides -- informative, but irreverent, fun and easy to read. I like that they include a lot of history and social context, but never, ever boring! Frankly, this app is interesting enough to stand alone as a good read sitting in my armchair at home. Get this app now!
Facaros and Pauls have done it again. The app is a monster at 171 megabytes, but worth every second of download time. The depth of information surpasses standard guides, and the organization of it will make you an expert in jig time. Note that this is not your usual "Venice on the Run." "Eating and Drinking" and "Where To Stay" do not list a bunch of particular places. Rather, they give very broad outlines, with a couple of excellent insider tips on areas, and principles. Read and use this guide to learn about a thousand things you need to do and see, about the history and people who have made the city the destination you want to experience.
At long last, a literate travel app for grown ups. D&M wrote our favourite Cadogan guides, and this app goes is even more in depth than their books. If you love Venice, you'll love this app.
