Vivino: Buy the Right Wine

2024 Update: if there’s one thing that really grinds my gears it’s when app makers take features that used to be free and then paywall them. Vivino is the latest to do so. Not only did they dump charts a while back they’re now putting features I loved behind a paywall. It’s a bummer because the app used to be so great, but now it just feels like a money making venture. Original Review: I loved this app, but was shocked and very sad to see that my favourite feature seems to have been removed. I used to use the charts all the time, whether to find new delicious wines under $20 for the weekend, or pricier wines for a gift. It was an easy way to discover new highly rated wines for whatever budget. Now it’s either gone, or buried in a manner that is not easy to find. Hope it returns… because otherwise the app is great.

I have been charged for a yearly subscription twice. There is no way to speak to an agent. Annoying chat bots that can’t recognize requests. I must delete my credit card and report unapproved charges to get out of this mess.

J’apprécie beaucoup cet app. Elle m’aide dans mes choix. La plupart du temps je choisi lorsque le vin est coté à 3.8 et plus. Rarement déçu. Par contre selon notre goût il y a quelques vins que je cotterais mieux ou parfois moins. Notre goût évolue aussi. A découvrir pour nous aider à choisir.

This was an amazing app until they decided to go premium with an outrageous monthly cost! Will now be looking for an alternative to Vivino. The latest update on iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 17..5.1 it just hangs on saving when adding or removing a bottle in the cellar.

I really ave no clue about wine but i know what I like. This App allows me to keep my favorites. I was in a grocery store in Venice Italy and this app allowed me to pick some great wines that were well within what o like to spend per bottle.

I have been pleased with the ease of ordering, but concerned that on several orders, vintages have been substituted. I understood this was a rare occurrence, but has occurred on several of my orders of late. If a wine and vintage is advertised, it should not be substituted without the customers consent. The camera is not as good now in recognizing wines, and certainly not with any background distractions. Worthwhile app though. Reviews are reliable and as always, better if curating whom to follow. Good breadth of wines and the shop is quick and reliable (for W. Canada). But the app does not reward/acknowledge Canadian wine regions (major ones like British Columbia and Ontario) with meaningful "ambassadorships" and expert status like California or Euro majors, and that's for Canada-centric members listed for and in Canada. The majority of the comments are intended simply to generate simple and basic "responses" vs any kind of discourse. There is also no feature to readily reach out to followers/followees but that also means no spam, no hate, no explicit content.

I used to love the app but it has slowed down considerably when scanning, searching and updating. Thinking about switching.

After going through all 929 data partners it is impossible to save your settings. Don’t start using it as it doesn’t respect your data privacy. There is no options to purchase a subscription so they need to have access to your data in order to make any money. Avoid!
