VOSC is best understood as a visual analogue of a traditional sound synthesizer. The medium of synthesis, rather than sound waves, is a vast quantity of on screen particles. By manipulating the size, shape, and frequency of the oscillators, an endless variety of moving patterns and textures can be created.
A primary mechanism at work in VOSC is the phenomenon of visual harmony as explored by the computer graphics pioneer and visual artist John Whitney in the mid 20th century. The oscillators of VOSC operate in accordance with Whitney's principle of differential motion, giving rise to harmonic resonances as their frequencies move across whole ratios.

Interesting app but needs work to make it great
This app is interesting with top notch graphics, but not having video capture reduces it’s usefulness greatly , now if the dev could add a way for the app to respond to audio or midi , it would make this a must buy for anyone looking to make synthetic images for video
Music for the eyes
I know my way around my Moogs and semi-modular synth gear, so it was intriguing to find this, and a real surprise to find how well it works! Like sound, interesting things can happen when you have multiple oscillators producing waves which modulate each other.
And like analog synths, this app uses science to produce art: I have wandered through bubbling lightscapes which, with a slight change in a parameter or two morph into impossible wireframe models, or blazing psychedelic plasma.
There is huge potential to follow synth architecture: choosing which oscillator modulates which would be interesting. So would the ability to limit frequencies to a harmonious intervals - like all sliders on the touch screen, it is hard not to have the value jump when your finger leaves the screen.
If the developers were feeling really brave, having the oscillators and modulators respond to MIDI would be glorious, as the visuals could then be linked to music apps, hardware synths, and you’d have a professional visualisation tool.
Video capture would have also made this a 5 star app.
Not worth the asking price
It’s interesting but quite limited in terms of creativity. Without video capture, it’s definitely not worth the asking price. A pointless curiosity rather than a creative tool. Disappointing.
VOSC is back!
Excellent! It now works on the modern gear.
I really like this, it is a good fundamental tool in a toolkit of video synthesis.
very interesting app
Great app to explore a form of particle cymatics.. would be interesting if the oscillators created a sound! Create some fantastic outcomes. Particle size may have been a fun variant and other modulation parameters...although to just jump in is good. Video capture may be nice... great little app though!
Fun but (currently) pointless
I bought this accidentally thinking is was an experimental audio tool, but its a visual one. It would be great if you could export images, or better still, video, without the 'hud' visible. Very clever but I would like it to do things I can use creatively, hence just 3 stars.
Nothing on startup
App doesn’t appear to launch. I see the VOSC banner then nothing. Running up to date I pad pro.
The new update is gorgeous.
Completely surprised by the new update. Not a completely new experience but it feels so much richer now. The visuals are cleaner and easier to see with customizable particle colors and background colors. Thank you so much for changing how the presets worked xD. Now we can see previews of the presets and clearly select ‘Read’ or ‘Write’. The interface flows better now and feels even easier to dive in and create mesmerizing visuals. Thanks again for this awesome update.
I’d happily pay more for AUv3 audio reactivity
I don’t know if its possible but id happily buy a visual synth like that with some midi and audio reactivity through auv3
Looks incredible
Really impressed by what I can do with this but I can’t figure out how to use the capture feature. It’s truly disappointing if someone wants to tell me how to do it successfully I’m all ears.
