What is the Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine?
The Systematic Approach to Tasting® (SAT) is a method of note taking developed by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust to make tasting notes more objective and comparable.
The methodology breaks down the evaluation of wine, spirits or sake into appearance, nose, palate and conclusion, supported by universal terminology.
The SAT is published at four progressive levels of difficulty in support of the four levels WSET qualifications available. This app has been built for wines at level two making it suitable for those who are new to the SAT method as well as those that have completed WSET courses.
A systematic approach to tasting provides wine tasters with a foundation on which to build and develop their skills. The SAT forms an integral part of all WSET courses.

Missing levels
Works good and nice, though does not support al wset3 levels (eg medium+ and medium-).
Also I miss the feature to edit tastings which would be nice to add additional details from the bottle afterwards.
Last feature request would be an option to make to tastings at the same time (often done to compare wines)
Not Official, Third Party
As a student, I have directly contacted WSET London via email and asked at their HQs for access. They said they said they do not provide any digital materials or app access.
Keeps crashing
It would be a good app if it didn’t keep crashing without saving any data! Very disappointing. :(
Poor experience
The app is good, the only problem is that when you reach the critical number of wine tastings (in my case it was around 50h it crashes with all your tasting records saved in the app, and it’s impossible to restart it again. I lost the tasting notes from my 2 trips to Italy - very-very disappointing experience
Rubbish
Lack of editing is a problem, only being able to use WSET’s ‘approved’ list of grapes a joke. Yesterday I drank Clairette, today I drank Zibibbo, according to WSET these varietals don’t exist and I can’t add them. No wonder WSET is becoming increasingly irrelevant.
Level 3 & 4 app?
Do you intend to update the app for people that would like to study level 3 & 4. I am just at level 2 so the app at the moment is amazing but would love it with the added features that level 3 & 4 will have. Keep up the great work.
Needs improvement. Editing option for notes
The app has its uses although I can’t see myself using it for long without the option of editing notes i have made, as with other reputable wine apps.
Additionally, perhaps allow the option of a full photo view when clicking the ‘photo’ thumbnail so that one can refer to the full wine bottle label uploaded.
I have found it useful during my WSET courses, but look forward to future updates to make it more user friendly
I have registered to use the app but I am not sure if that means my notes are stored on the cloud / viewable on other devices? If not .. this could be another welcome addition
With thanks
Good app
Very good app and supports the learning from the WSET level 2.
What would be nice would be to be able to save the tastings online so could transfer to new device etc.
A editable Level 3 version would be even better
The format works well, it helps you remember what to assess, providing prompts. It’s great you can add a photo. It would be even better if it included a WSET 3 version, and you could edit notes after!
Love it
This app is really handy to create and store my tasting notes. So easy to use too.
