Good for the price
I use this to record indoor and outdoor soccer. It captures about 75-90% of the action. It tends to get confused when there are people warming up or spectators on the sidelines. This has potential and is much cheaper than other products.
Xbot chameleon
I have had my xbot now for a month and have enjoyed it. There are still instances where the program is following the wrong player. Support has been helpful. I have sent them videos and they have been using them to understand glitches.
Pro/ Cons
The app is generally user-friendly and integrates well with the XBot Camera, offering decent performance. However, one key area that could greatly enhance the user experience is the control functionality. Currently, the reliance on the remote limits the app’s convenience and effectiveness.
Suggestion for Developers: It would be highly beneficial if the app could support a unified login system that allows seamless control from other devices. Being able to operate the XBot Camera remotely using another device logged into the same account would be a game-changer, making the system much more versatile and eliminating the need for the physical remote. This would provide users with more flexibility, especially when managing the camera from different locations or on the go.
Overall, adding this feature would elevate the app’s practicality and usability for a broader range of scenarios.
Suggestion
It would be great if the camera while recording could be locked in a horizontal setting so that when people walk in front of the camera at hockey rinks the camera does not focus down and track them.
Have a max pan angles for up and down too.
Good idea but needs work
This app along with the gimbal is a good start
The following need to be addressed to make it better
1) allow for higher resolution recording. 1080 limits the quality for post production
2) allow manual zoom when recording games
3) set boundaries for the tracker to work within
4) allow mirroring of the screen to another device, like GoPro does. It’s difficult to see what you are recording when your phone is 10-13’ high. The tracker may not be capturing everything. This is when the remote will help to adjust tracking.
5) configuration should be testable to make sure it is setup correctly. For example, the recording angle may be too large or small and you won’t know until it’s too late when you are recording.
5) hardware problem, the gimbal is not water resistant.
It’s fairly good
I have used the xbot exclusively for recording youth basketball games. To make this work you need to hope your kid is playing in a venue that has space for you to stand at mid-court. If you lucky and can do that you have to be prepared to redirect the bot when it gets distracted by spectators and the referee. The camera is very slow in capturing a fast break or a steal the results in a single player streaking down the court against the grain of the motion. The most maddening inconsistency, however, is the fact that it randomly mutes my recordings even though I turn the mute function off before filming. I am hoping this newly updated software will address this shortcoming. Other than that it works fairly well.
Disappointing
Had high hopes for this however tracking 11v11 high speed football game panning is very jerky and hard to watch. Was only accurate about 80% missed some of the big moments. Could use an update to slow the panning
Higher quality video needed 4k and 1080p high bitrates
Tracking is better, can adjust speed track manually and cut off angle but cannot adjust video quality.
Bitrate is low with artifacts even at 1080p. Tracking should have one resolution if cpu needs lower quality to analyze but you need 4k and 1080p higher bitrates
Been using it for little over a year
I’ve experienced the gimbal freezing, not tracking, flashing reminds, but over the course of a year recording both soccer and basketball, it is still highly recommended by me. Sometimes you have to unpair and pair back, delete and download the app again, but generally it works well.
I wish the app makers would add the following:
1) Record at 60 frames per second. iPhone supports it so just include that as well.
2) remove watermark (please)!
3) Auto highlight generator. Or some additional insight in the video file where made baskets or goals happened. Depends on the sports, but basketball made basket seems easy first.
Still on the fence
Purchased the unit. It doesn’t work with all the phones as stated with my experience. I have asked it with both iPhone and Samsung phones and found it to be 75% tracking correctly on the basketball. But with IPhone X it’s at like 30%. Works ok with iPhone 11.
