Runs ok but controls are very broken. A little annoying that I brought this
It plays for a while, but then it has glitches where nothing works. Ive tried everything, including starting the entire game from the beginning, but the game is simply just broken. Shame because a game like this would be great portable, best to just stick to the console or pc version.
Get to title screen and doesn’t register any inputs.
Not sure why so many people are having problems. Apart from one/two little bugs overall (which I could address by closing and restarting the app), it plays really well on iPad Air 2 with iOS 10. Nice storyline, great graphics, smooth game play, adjustable difficulty. And it's quite long too. Definitely worth the price (bought at the Xmas price cut).
Ran into the same game breaking tutorial bug that others report - searching shows it was ported over from other platforms and never addressed.
Horrible
But sound is absolutely garbled in iOS 8.3 - makes it unplayable
I definitely recommend this game. There are very little games to play that has the value of XCOM:EW. However, there are some issues with this version. - On a screen smaller than an iPad mini, this is going to be frustrating, like typing with a fat hand. - As expected, since this is an iOS game, the settings available is reduced by a lot from the PC version. - The 'double tap to confirm action' system for things such as rockets is very easy to accidentally trigger, precision is very important, and this should have been in the options. - XCOM Heroes (Easter egg) from the console and pc are not ported over. - No option to play Enemy Unknown. This would be a problem because Enemy Unknown isn't sold separately. - Game reloads itself when you go to another app for a few minutes. Since I am new to the game, I find looking on the wiki impossible to do during a mission
Game is telling me to target an enemy that isn't there. It won't let me do any thing else until I do what it wants (which I can't). Can't restart the level either. Only way to get past it is to delete my save data and start again from scratch. Such fun.
I played XCOM:Enemy Unknown on my console and loved it. And Enemy Within is pretty much the same thing, which is the problem. It’s not optimised at all for a small screen experience (and I’m on an iPhone 6). It’s very difficult to get a good battlefield perspective, which is terminal for a turn-based strategy game. And the Mission and Situation Rooms are ridiculous. They’re still using pull through ticker tape words that are honestly impossible to read (and pinch zoom is not available at all in the base). The screens appear exact as they would as if they were on your 55’’ LCD TV. It’s laughable. Oh, and it’s buggy as hell, and i’m not talking about the aliens. It crashes, the nav disappears and it locks up constantly. Crying shame all of it because I know from Enemy Unknown how good the game could be. And for a $15+ price point, this total lack of optimisation is a complete rip off.
