By incorporating the core principles of the Zettelkasten and monolithic note-taking methods into its design, Zettelbox enables you to quickly implement these proven note-taking techniques and focus on your thinking.
[Card Notes]
Zettelbox encourages you to record your notes in an atomic manner, creating individual note cards that can be organized into categories. Because each card typically describes a single piece of knowledge, you can easily manage your notes using traditional categorization methods. This intuitive approach ensures that your thought process is not hindered by an overly complex note system.
In traditional Zettelkasten methods, each card has a unique identifier, essentially acting as a directory system. Whether you use the traditional wiki approach or the more recent Zettelkasten method for knowledge management, a classification tree around the knowledge system is essential.
For beginners, you can start with a few basic categories in Zettelbox without worrying about exhausting all possible content classifications. When a category accumulates enough cards, you can further organize them through subcategories, allowing your knowledge system to "grow naturally" rather than letting the number of knowledge cards grow unchecked.
[Card Relationships]
In Zettelbox, besides the traditional classification tree as the main carrier of cards, there are two unique card management logics: card relations and timeline. These are inspired by the Zettelkasten and monolithic note-taking methods, respectively.
The card relation feature is similar to the note links in RoamResearch and Obsidian, but in Zettelbox, we call it "relation". You can link a card with other cards and see which cards are linked with the current card. Furthermore, Zettelbox has optimized the relation feature for knowledge management scenarios, allowing you to view cards with the same relations as the current card. In academic terms, you can directly view "sibling cards," which is very useful in many thinking and review scenarios.
The timeline is the "soul" of monolithic notes. The monolithic note-taking method, invented by Nobuyuki Okuno, advocates recording all content in chronological order. This way, when reviewing later, you can browse other content recorded before and after the note in the time dimension. Often, our inspiration does not come from intense thinking but from incidental or associative thoughts. Zettelbox provides a timeline feature that allows you to quickly locate the cards you want to view on the timeline and understand what you were thinking before and after writing the card.
[Offline Use and Data Security]
As a product designer and knowledge worker, I understand that the most important aspects of a knowledge management tool are stability and security. Therefore, Zettelbox has adhered to using native system development technology and insisted on local encrypted storage + cloud service backup from the beginning of its design. More flexible data export features will be provided in the future.
In short, you can confidently entrust your recording and accumulation to Zettelbox. Focus on the most important thing: thinking.
Respect knowledge, revere knowledge, and make knowledge truly work for you. We look forward to a better you and a better Zettelbox in the future.
