ArpBud 2 is a MIDI Arpeggiator app where you can create unique arp patterns and be able to arpeggiate your favorite software or hardware synthesizers.
Unlike the traditional up/down style arpeggiators, you can design your unique patterns with unlimited number of steps. For each step, you can set the note interval, velocity, octave, ratchet, gate, and probability. ArpBud 2 also has a very powerful randomizer where you can randomize any step for any mode.
In a project, you can create unlimited number of patterns. For each pattern, you can assign different note rates and swing values. You can use MIDI CC messages from other apps for changing the playing pattern.
From the settings menu, you can assign a MIDI CC number for the pattern changes, the maximum number of interval numbers, randomizer settings, and knob control settings.
ArpBud 2 would react your pattern changes and step edits on the fly when you are playing it live, which makes it a great live performance tool as well as a arp design tool.
You can use it on standalone mode, IAA (Inter-App Audio) mode, Audiobus mode, AUv3 Audio Unit plugin mode. It also supports Ableton Live as well.
ArpBud 2 is a MIDI effect tool and does not produce sound on its own. It needs both MIDI input and output connections in order to work.
- Connect a MIDI source to ArpBud 2, like a MIDI keyboard, chord sequencer, or any other MIDI app to feed ArpBud 2's sequencer.
- Connect ArpBud 2 to any MIDI compatible Audio app.
- Arm the ArpBud 2's sequencer. If you are using the standalone version or Audiobus/IAA version then you can press the play button on the top right. If you are using the AUv3 plugin, then you can press the play button on your host app.

SooOOoooo one way to view an arpeggio is as a pattern of notes, aka "a sequence". SooOOoooo you'd think if you had 8 steps and you put the first step as 1 (the root), then second as 3, the third step as 5 and the fourth step as 8..... then played or "fed" this App a note, say a C note. Well you would "THINK" you'd get or generate 1, 3, 5 and 8.
NO, not at all. It doesn't even make sense. WHY? Why tell or indicate to the app what notes, or relative notes to play for a sequence; and then you have to supply the app with more than one note?
It’s ok
This arpeggiator has potential. The probability, randomization options, and limitless steps are shining points. I’ve been using several instances inside of Loopy Pro, however they have started to crash constantly to the point of uselessness. Furthermore, as someone mentioned in a previous review, this arpeggiator has no latch which is a basic functionality of any good arpeggiator.
The developer responded to the previous review by saying to activate latch, turn the gate all the way up. I’m afraid that this does not perform a latch function, but rather holds the note through until a note off is received and is aptly named TIE inside the app.
For clarification, latch is a functionality which allows an arpeggiator to temporarily remember the midi note(s) you just played and apply them to the arpeggiator. The difference between latch and a hold function is the hold remembers every note you play until you turn it off like riding the sustain pedal. Latch forgets the previous note(s) each time you play new ones. This is a powerful function as you can, for example, play a chord into the arpeggiator, let go of the keyboard whilst that chord is still arpeggiating, reposition your hands and perhaps change some some your instruments parameters such as filter cutoff-modulation-etc, play a new chord, and hear the arpeggiator smoothly switch to the new tonality. ArpBud 2, unfortunately, does not do this.
Not good with BeatMaker 3
When adding as a MIDI effects to a Auv3 synth app like Digital 1, it cuts off the signal instead of playing out the full sound
No latch?
I was starting love this arpeggiator, and then I went to look for the latch function. Is this really one of the only arpeggiators with no latch?
Same issue as DocnovaETSU
I am having the same issue as another user previously reported: changing the note values have no effect. Sometimes the app plays nothing at all (in AUM). I have the latest iOS version.
Arpbud not working, can’t input.
Just purchased the bud bundle and Arpbud doesn’t work at all. This is so disappointing. You can’t change any value on the note tab, and all of the other tabs only changes a single random lane regardless of which one you drag on. That is the standalone, as a auv3, simply nothing works at all. Please fix this, is this app even a year old? So disappointing to drop $20 on an app and a big chunk of what I wanted the app for doesn’t work as advertised, or in this case at all. And it’s not an error on my part tried reinstalling, restarting, and did tutorial twice.
Simple, powerful and works best with AUM
This is amazing! Very intuitive to use and works so so well with the other synths. Plus the addition of Ratchets along with other variables is great! Exactly what I was looking for!
Fantastic Developer!
These apps are great, and they are being upgraded almost daily. Can’t beat that. Not sure why one person gave them a 1 Star, but I’d being willing to bet it was error on their part not the app.
Help
Does not work in BeatMaker 3. Sounds like notes are stuck.
