Booka - Minimal Booklist

I was super happy with this app… until it randomly stopped working. It deleted the last several weeks of data off my account and I lost all the notes and quotes I collected. I also can’t search for any books using the search function anymore — it’s like the entire library of searchable books has disappeared. I’ve tried everything — there’s no information anywhere about how to recover anything. And worst of all, I paid for the subscription and now it’s got locked on everything saying that I need to subscribe again?? But after I restored it, everything just got worse. This was my favorite reading app and I don’t know what happened, but I’m at my wits end. How sad, I had this app for a long time. Very disappointing.

Literally the perfect reading app. Tracks the things I care about, no ads or weird memberships, no social media vibes. Love having a tag for each year and for my all-time favorite books. And it makes it so much easier to keep track of all the books on my “to-read” list! Just download it.

This app was everything I wanted and it isn’t even that expensive. The only saddening thing is that every time I try to upload my own cover for one of the books (say to match which version I have even though it’s not originally on there) there is a glitch. If I upload one cover, it’ll change all the other covers that I already uploaded to that same picture. So for example, if I upload a cover for shatter me. And then try to upload a cover for Percy Jackson, the Percy Jackson cover will show up for both Percy Jackson and shatter me. I really hope this bug can be fixed because I already bought one year of subscription without realizing.

This has a nice clean, minimalist design but it’s missing an important feature. You cannot sort the books within their categories. I want them to appear in an alphabetical format, but they only show up in the order in which I entered them. There’s no option to sort alphabetically like there is on the homepage. There’s also no option to search for books within a particular category. I tried emailing the developer but no changes have been made. If books could be sorted alphabetically and we could search within the categories, I would gladly pay for the premium version. But because we can’t, I’m searching for a new app. I give it three stars for beautiful, minimalistic design but just wish it had better functionality.

I don’t like Goodreads and wanted another app to keep track of my reading. I downloaded way too many to finally find this one. This app is exactly what I wanted! Easy to use, no annoying ads, and doesn’t have the noise of a community. Thank you to the developer!

Edit: I’ve since realized that technically yes, you can keep scrolling back on the date and get to past years. But I stand by my complaint because this isn’t practical or user friendly at all. I still think we need to be able to just click and manually edit the dates if need be! This app is beautiful and exactly what I needed both in organization and aesthetic. I adore it. There is one thing keeping me from paying for pro and using it as my main book app… I can’t edit reading dates. Oh, you “can”, but not the year! This means I can’t backlog and of my previously read books… even something I read six months ago, because that was 2021 and editing reading history only allows you to change the month, day and…. TIME? This is a huge oversight for any reader who loves tracking and that’s the point of apps like these right? Please, please fix this and you will have my money and support! Everything else is wonderful.

I'm loving this app so far, but I've been looking for an app to save quotes from books that I'm reading or have read. Can you add something like that? edit: Never mind, it just occurred to me that I can use the notes option to save my quotes. I totally forgot about that feature!

After trying many apps, this one fulfills all my need! Easy to track progress, allows you to add multiple and custom tags to a book, and has by far the best search engine! I was able to find many books here that I weren’t able to find in other book’s auto search(and with the correct cover photo!) It is completely free and does not require any subscription at all! There’s only a gentle ‘support’ tab that’s incorporated in the settings menu to voluntarily show appreciation to the developer (set at $4.99!) rather than abrupt subscription requests or limited functions for free versions.

I love this app! I read a *lot* and I love to keep lists of what I read to remind myself of what I read and when I read it. This app lets me do it in a beautiful way. I can also add little notes while I read and come back to them later. It’s very helpful to not have to write in my books.
