Cards That Talk

If anyone ever develops an app that can read simple, playing cards, I would be forever in your debt. Seems like such a simple thing to do considering all the identifier apps out there. Help a blind brother out.

We purchased these cards & downloaded the app for my dad’s best friend who has almost completely lost his eyesight. These cards have brought hope and renewed interest in playing their favorite card game - cribbage. In recent years, he often sat out of rounds or quit early due to visual difficulty. I cannot rate this high enough or express the excitement around this we all share. Thank you so much, we will be ordering more decks very soon.

When I lost my vision 5 years ago, I never imagined that I would ever be able to play cards again, especially considering that I suffer from moderate diabetic neuropathy - a condition that severely limits the sensitivity in my fingertips and prevents me from reading Brailled playing cards. All that being said, I was still skeptical about Cards That Talk, primarily being concerned that the delays that I would encounter when identifying, sorting and organizing my cards would be tiresome and long, creating long stretches where everyone else would be waiting on me. Enter the simplicity and beauty of Cards That Talk. When playing Eukre for the first time in more than a decade, I was able to keep pace with everyone else and have equal footing at the card table again. On an iPhone 8, the free scanning app was lightning fast when reading the QR Code off the back of the playing cards. And using the smart phone mounting stand (sold seperately) allowed for hands free playing and made the overall experience that much more enjoyable. First time users will want to practice a little before diving straight into competition to develop their own strategies for improving speed. For myself, I would collect my hand after it was dealt and stack the cards in a pile. I would place the pile under the phone, which was held on the smart phone stand, and this would allow the smart phone camera to scan the back of the top card. I would begin to organize my cards as I picked them up off the scanning pile and place them in my hand, sorting them by suit - clubs, then diamonds, then hearts and finally spades. As play progressed, I would swipe the card I intended on playing under the scanner to verify the value before throwing them into the middle for play.

In adequate and hard to find instructions for the visually impaired. I bought the cards, downloaded the app, it. Does. Not. Work. Thankfully I did not spend more on the accessories. I am very disappointed; this would have been wonderful if it worked.

as my subject line states, The application along with the cards are good. The cards hold up well to gameplay. my only concern is there is not any indication of whether the cards are Face up, or facedown. This led to delayed time when trying to read the QR code. A suggestion would be to put the QR code on a piece of tape or something of that nature, so that it can be tactilely felt. another problem that I ran into was low lights and like the app and not being able to pick up the QR code from the card. I would suggest a feature and which the which which cameras light would be able to automatically come on when not enough light is present. lastly when in the application when you double tap on the scan button, voiceover does not announce that you have started scanning. The button still reads as start scanning. other than those three observations, this app has great potential for people who cannot read braille or do not have enough vision to read the cards.

I can finally play cards again without worrying!! This wonderful app speaks the numbers to me! The cards shuffle just like a normal deck of cards and I can tell which side is which by holding them under the app. Thank You App Gods 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀 I can finally play cards with my friends again 😎

Have been using it with my brother who has lost his eyesight and we really enjoy it. It is easy to use and the card are like a standard deck.

It seems to be sporadic. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
