CASIO ClassPad

Straight off, there’s no screen rotate which is needed for long and very long equations and also other requirements. This is absolutely, at least with an iPhone ‘max’ size. Rotate is available on iPad, but the iPhone needs it to (or at least the ‘max’ sized iPhones). Secondly, I’d be more than happy paying a one-off fee for the full version, or separate one-off fees for the individual apps or mathematical categories. Monthly subscriptions are a greedy out of date concept that should be long gone. I wouldn’t expect reputable renowned companies to be on the ill-conceived monthly subscription wagon. I would however happily pay a reasonable price as a one-off purchase.

The CASIO ClassPad is a great device, and I think it has great potential, however it asks for a subscription to use certain features (which is extremely unnecessary, especially coming from a calculator), and I think that all features should be allowed, as I don’t think lots of income will be generated from this by using this approach (because it will drive people away), and there will be excess supply (as there isn't enough demand to get rid of all of the supply). Also, most things on the calculator only work on the ‘ClassPad II’. This is probably unintended, as the ClassPad II isn’t even available on the App Store. What a shame.

This app is brillant

Für mich als Lehrerin, ist es praktisch, dass ich den ClassPad über die App auf dem iPad öffnen und mit dem Display im Klassenzimmer verbinden kann. So können die Schüler*innen Schritt für Schritt die Eingabe nachvollziehen. Leider sind einige Eingabeschritte nicht umsetzbar. Eine Stärke des ClassPad ist es, dass Terme und Gleichungen markiert und per Drag & Drop weiterverwendet werden können. Nach dem Markieren eines Ausdrucks reagiert die App jedoch nicht und stürzt ab. Sehr schade… Die Funktion des Splitscreens würde die Anwenderfreundlichkeit weiter erhöhen.

Laut Bedienungsanleitung soll man ein Programm sowohl im Main Menu als auch in einer eActivity ausführen können. Leider kann man es in der iOS app nur im Main Menu ausführen, in der eActivity nicht. Ist das ein generelles Problem in der iOS app und wann kann das behoben werden?

Die App scheint bei jedem Start nach Hause zu telefonieren, ob ein gültiges Classpad-Net-Konto vorliegt. Wenn kein Internet vorhanden ist, sperrt die App sofort die Zusatzfunktionen. Dadurch ist die App in einer Schule, an der es nur iPads mit WLAN und einer lückenhaften WLAN-Versorgung gibt, nicht vernünftig einsetzbar. Außerdem unterstützt die App keine externen Tastaturen.

Als ich die App öffnete fragte ich mich direkt was da eigentlich los ist denn die App ist schwer zu bedienen und alles ist außerdem auf Englisch. Die Kosten liegen bei unzahlbaren Preisen und es ist unmöglich ihn sonst zu bedienen. Ich Würde diesen Rechner niemanden empfehlen der später was in dem Fach Mathematik erreichen will.
