Hugely disappointing
Finally gave this a try on my FS5 II as I thought it would be the solution to helping me focus the camera while self shooting. The video stream sent to the app is unfortunately too low quality to be able to tell whether it’s properly in focus on not, there is no peaking, there is not focus magnification. And even though the app indicated it had successfully focused on my face by showing the green square (and my face is quite a large target to focus on!) what it had actually done is focus on the background, leaving me in soft focus. Now I need to reshoot the whole piece to camera. A swing and a miss from Sony - but please fix this because it could be so useful.
Useless
Can't connect either. The reviews say it all. Useless Sony.
Can't connect to PXW-FS5
Followed instructions to the letter in my FS5 manual but the app will not find any connections to the camera. Can't even use it.
Pure disappointment
Didn't even get a chance to use the app. It just crashes instantly. Thanks Sony...
Fairly useless with PXW-X70 camera
I and a colleague have bought the PXW-X70 camera and are eagerly awaiting a significant firmware upgrade or update to this app (as of Dec 2014) to address some awkward issues with controlling the X70.
The WiFi function which is championed in the sales material (i.e. controlling with a smartphone) is useless.
It knocks out the cameras auto iris & auto focus controls, and focus cannot be managed via the smartphone either.
All it can do is zoom.
I was hoping to be able to run focus function from an iPhone with a Steadicam kit to keep basic operation hands-free, but alas this was not to be.
Hopefully the promised 4k upgrade will mean a revamp of WiFi functions, but if not even with the relatively low cost of the X70 it would be better to look elsewhere if you need a broadcast camera with smartphone control.
I will look at the Canon XF205 to see if the WiFi/smartphone functions work better on that camera.
Disappointed with Sony on this, especially as they made such a big fuss about smartphone control functions.
If this app gets upgraded to deliver the promised functions then it will be great, but until then this is worthless.
What’s the point?!
1. It is a tedious process to connect
2. How can you monitor the camera with a resolution max of a astounding 480p image?
If you can’t monitor above 480p? What is the point of even having a monitoring feature? We should at minimum be able to monitor at 720p resolution.
Terrible Resolution
This application seems to have been entirely forgotten. The resolution of the video feed is far worse than with the Imaging Edge Mobile app. The UI and controls feel outdated.
And, basic features in the Imaging EdgeMobile app aren’t there, like setting the camera date and time.
Typical Sony
Once again, Sony’s amazing camera hardware is backed up by shoddy software. I really wish they’d grow their software engineering team and hire some competent programmers. This is the company that’s had a “Paint” option in their menus for who knows how many years, so that seems unlikely
Needs some fixes
Needs a producer pin coded lockout.. would love some bit rate adjustments from the fx9 to the app..
Pretty Useless
I mean, unless you really need to watch yourself because you’re solo...there’s no real need for this app. I use it with my FS5 sometimes (if I remember I have it) and it’s honestly just good for monitoring what’s going on. Sure you can hit record but, you can also do that before you get in front of the camera. It’s not hard to cut that bit out.
