Good, bad and the ugly
What’s good: it’s fighting fantasy - enough said. And it has three of the best FF books converted into computer game play. The developers have really captured the sense of adventure, urgency and story that the books had. Deathtrap Dungeon in particular conveyed the depth of challenge from the books. What’s bad: the fact your character doesn’t transfer between the three stories. Kind of makes the overall feel more like standalone adventures rather than a set of connected stories. The fact that your hard earned skill / luck improvements are wiped out is a let down. The ugly: the graphics are just too dated but I could overlook that if not for the really odd random number generation when combined with the dice improvement mechanic. It almost feels like the dice rolls are deliberately weighted against you, so despite having skill upgrades you can consistently loose to lesser opponents - easily the worst aspect, either that or my dice rolls are terribly unlucky. So three stars overall: 5 for story and general gameplay, -1 for graphics and lack of character continuity and -1 for the nerfed dice rolls which detract from an otherwise great dice mechanic.
