DOOM II

Using touch controls is tough on an iPad. I’d like to be able to use the claw method (using fingers at top of screen to shoot etc) but there’s no way to move the touch controls in the settings. PUBG mobile does this brilliantly. Previously I used a controller and it worked flawlessly and was great. 5/5 with controller, great port of a great game.

The frustration is not worth the money

Most of the reviews and info about this game (and Doom 1) are out-of-date, as of Nov 2023, so I had to buy it to find out the current state of play. The good news is that the game uses the full screen on my iPad Mini 5, and it looks & sounds great. Also good is that the touch control overlay isn’t shown if you are using a controller. The bad news is that, while my bluetooth game pad is recognised and works partially, there is no way of changing the control mappings and the game assumes a full modern controller with dual sticks and triggers, etc. I‘m using a retro-style mini controller (8BitDo Zero 2), with only a D-pad and fewer buttons, and this means that I cannot turn left or right (only strafe) or even fire! On the PC version of the Nerve Doom remasters, which is otherwise very similar, I can change the controller mapping to be the way Iwant/need for this game pad , but the Options menu on the iOS version does not include the “Customize Controls” item and so I’m stuck with the fixed defaults. Reluctantly, I’m going to have to ask for a refund, as I definitely do not want to buy (and carry) a PlayStations or XBox-style controller, or to be forced to use the touch controls. This is a pity as otherwise this version of Doom II seemed to be exactly what I was hoping for.

Doom 2 is really fun with it’s challenging levels amazing enemy design and just funness in general

BEST GAME

I’m a long time Doom fan, and have played across various mobile devices. It’s nice to be able to get a quick Doom fix on the go, but the controls on this implementation are really uncomfortable - this ruins the experience a bit.

Totally unplayable on iPad. Can only go forward, back and sidewards. No rotation at all. Will have to delete this app…shame really.

Finally iOS Doom is good again! :-) Thank you Bethesda for bringing this game back to life. The controls are now excellent and there are some lovely new touches, like the progress indicators on the map page. A classic game which can be enjoyed properly on the iPad now. Please add keyboard support for the full classic experience!

It a very fun game like how do I explain it ok solveving puzzles and lots a gore my type of game

Worse than the last ones. They’re horrible. It’s put me off playing. I hate touchscreen games with fake ‘buttons’ instead of using proper ‘full screen’ touchscreen controls. Can you allow us to revert to the old ones under ‘Options’ in the next update please? Let us choose.
