Fi - GPS Dog Tracker

Get rid of the constant notification to keep the app running in the background every time you close it. It’s unbelievably annoying

My German shorthair, Hershey, is an explorer. He loves his adventures and sometimes he hops the fence and takes them without telling us. I have at times found him 3 miles from his starting point. With us living in the middle of the city and being surrounded by busy streets we need to find him fast when he leaves. Fi lets us know when he is running away and helps us find our boy quick before he runs out into a road. I don’t know if he would still be alive without his Fi collar and that’s the honest truth! Thank you Fi!

This app works fine in the city as I believe it relies heavily on Wi-Fi once you leave city limits it’s worthless in the woods 45 minutes to an hour and a half if it even updates at all even on lost dog mode numerous calls to customer support just to get the runaround and no help. Look elsewhere

Device doesn’t work as well as I expected. Fails to notify when my dog leaves safe zone, doesn’t track walks well when not with owner. App is inconsistent in showing timeline. Sometimes shows walks but no timeline or shows timeline but no walking routes. Cannot refresh app to update any new data on location of my dog.

We got this app because it does an excellent job tracking our dog when he escapes the yard. However it frequently sends false alarms to the rest of the family when one of us is walking the dog with our phone and the app open. There should be a feature that allows you to say you’re on a walk.

I’ve read through Fi’s support, and they claim they need always on GPS to help with their dog collars battery life. That same article cites their base station also solves this problem. HOWEVER, Fi has designed their app to not show you anything at all if you turn GPS to anything other than “Always On”. I can’t check battery life, location, steps, nothing. Which is ridiculous because my dogs spend 95% of their day next to a base station and I don’t need my phone providing their location. Instead my phone gets horrific battery life with this app on. The hardware is impressive. The features in the app are great. But it’s useless if they lock it behind a battery draining feature I don’t need.

In my area though, it’s not very effective, because we are rural and don’t have AT&T towers, so it takes 15 minutes or more to connect the collar to the base. In that amount of time, my dog could be a mile or more away. IMO, base device should connect across multiple networks .

Overall, I like the app, but the constant reminders that I need to keep it open all the time and requiring me to always enable location services are beyond annoying, and completely unnecessary.

This device only tracks for a portion of our hikes. It never records full hikes. It is also very slow to track when it’s in lost dog mode taking way to long when the dog is actually missing. I thought tractive was a way better system except for the mounting piece fell off. I thought I’d try this one since it’s part of the collar but have to say I’ll probably go back to Tractive soon

Complete invasion of privacy. Will drain your battery and track your every move. The GPS is not real time and they hammer you with notifications if you try and close the app or disable location services. They demand to watch you constantly, which is not needed. Customer support is not able to do anything other than read policy and hide behind “not my decision” approach. No accountability or help with issues. Company needs to focus on tracking pets and not exploitation of its customers.
