Focal & Naim

On the positive side, I have never had any connectivity issues - but all I have is a single Atom HE connected via ethernet and accessed by an iPad and iPhone via a BT vanilla WiFi network…. Overall the UI is OK but what frustrates me about the app is the way it still looses state when you switch from one option to another and back again - eg say I was listening to Qobuz and a news flash comes up, I switch to to Internet Radio to hear whats happened and then switch back- what I was listening to on Qobuz has gone as has anything else I had queued up.. I fail to understand why this obvious use case hasn’t been sorted.

I purchased a pair of Focal Bathy headphones from Richer Sounds and now having been using them regularly for over a month, I’ve noticed an issue with them. Basically it’s with the volume adjustment and finding the headphones either too quiet or too loud. I just want to be able to turn them up by a small amount, but the jump up in volume at this point is too large and overpowering. It goes from not quite loud enough" to "too loud" quickly, (in one volume step) there’s simply not enough adjustment range . At the moment, I just cannot enjoy listening to them. A firmware update could solve this problem as I’m not the only one with this issue. Having seen it described online by quite a few other uses on different headphone forums so it’s not only me. It turns out these headphones only have 16 increments of volume whilst most other headphones including my Sony’s have 32 increments of volume allowing for fine adjustment.

Blimey. What have Naim done? App improved and now works seamlessly. Nice.

Awful awful app. Buggy, constantly thinks it’s trying to find a new device. I could go on but it’s too tiring. It’s actually putting me off listening to my music. Please can someone sort this car crash out

I was hoping this latest version would fix the problem when modifying a track in metadata where it substitutes the album title with the track name. It doesn’t and if anything it’s now worse. There is also now a long delay when pulling up the track names after selecting an album. Does this stuff ever get properly tested before release? I wish there was an option to revert to a previous release.

Totally hacked off at the delay in getting their Radio offering on the app updated. Emailed support months ago and they know about the issue where the app takes an eon to load radio stations. Said an upgrade was being worked on but still we’re waiting. Having to use multiple apps to air play radio and in the unlikely event that the station I want to listen to finally loads, as soon as you use another source, you have to start the load again. Unreliable connection to AirPlay also and whilst I love the sound quality of both Naim devices, am seriously considering another brand. It shouldn’t be this hard.

I bought a Naim Muso Qb in 2013 because of its sound quality. However the app seems unable to reliably stream BBC radio stations (although other internet radio stations remain available in the app as presets). Judging by the Naim user forums this has been a persistent problem for some years now and Naim seem unable or uninterested in fixing it.

Update in 2024 - Years down the line and the app is as dreadful as ever. Truly and definitely the worst app I have ever used. Main should be embarrassed that after all this time the app works like it was made by a 5 year old, and looks like it was developed in the 70s. New review after using for a while. Still the worst app I have ever used. Whoever designed it should give up app development! I have a fantastic wi-fi but the app spends all its time seeking the 3 “rooms” I have set up for my three Naim devices (for which I spent over £2000) whenever I fire up the app, and does the same at random times after it has finally started. Even aside from this, the app is totally unintuitive and you have to hunt for functions- multi room being a good example, and when changing presets it even asks if you would like to replace “empty” when adding a new one. Pathetic, and I wish now I had never bought a Naim setup.
