hippo drops the “hidden match’s” mechanic that Tinder inspired and it’s 117 times better for it. If someone likes you, it directly tells you who and lets you decide. This has made for FAAAAR better experiences on the app. This has lead to way more healthy interactions on the app. It’s like Tinder so dominated the conversation on dating apps that it’s toxic consequences were taken as the “reality” of dating, and hippo finally broke that cycle and started over.

It is one of the better ones, they must pay their developers more than some of the other dating apps. I also don’t know how they have managed to get so many things right with their app. But I really have enjoyed using it. I have also met some great potentials!! Try it out.

hippo is far more superior to other dating apps in its ability to get users to engage but one major issue I have is that it allows for there to be a height filter. I’m 5’119 and far from short but if there’s a filter to select for height, there should be a filter that selects for weight or body type. It doesn’t explicitly say “filter out short men here” but you can make this a dealbreaker so that you don’t get men under a certain height even suggested to you and I’ve even had women straight up tell me they do this. I would love to never have heavier women suggested to me. If we can accept that certain heights aren’t a preferred measurement for some people, we should also accept that certain weights and body types aren’t a preference. It’s a waste of time and allows for too much clutter when I’m getting suggestions.
