Good concept, poorly executed
We have just arrived in Tokyo for our last night after 2 weeks travelling the country and it’s raining cats and dogs. When leaving the station we saw one of your machines so we thought we were saved and we wouldn’t get our 2 weeks worth of luggage soaking wet on our way to the hotel. We scan the QR code, install the app and somehow find the option to link a payment method to the app - and that’s as far as I could go. The app wasn’t correctly detecting my location and out of the 3 options shown, none showed the amount of umbrellas the machine we were at had. Also and most importantly, not having an option to change the language to English made the whole process even more tedious and complicated - we even tried scanning each section with Google Translate and the translations provided didn’t really make sense. Offering your service in such touristy areas and not having a different language option is quite a poor decision, given that the people that are most likely to not own an umbrella in Japan are tourists! The app should pick up the language from the phone settings or at least show a pop up as soon as you open it offering to change it at the beginning or in a simpler way (such as when asking to add a payment method). I’m unaware of if this option exists in any other part of the app as after 20 mins of being on the way next to the ticket machines trying to work it out, I decided to uninstall the app and just get wet.
