Terrible program
Trying to get a taxi under Cityride can be a nightmare. I used taxi service four times, each a problematic experience. The cab drivers don’t know the plan beyond that it exists or how it works and, if they do (one did), they’re upset when they learn they’re to give you a discounted ride. The cab dispatch people are terrible, the drivers are constantly and unusually rude. They all seem to be annoyed dealing with this program. They typically want to charge regular fare. You can only load money every three months and it’s not enough to pay for more than three or four relatively short trips total in a cab. The ten mile radius limit precludes many dial-a-ride (van transport) trips and there is no exception, you can’t simply pay a balance, plus they have to be booked a couple days in advance. There are various conditions with dial-a-ride to access transportation. It’s an exercise in inconvenience. Los Angeles’ Cityride is a good idea but just dysfunctional, unnecessarily bureaucratic, very, very poorly conceived and administered, to the point it is almost unusable.
