Language Game - LangLandia

I’m revising my review as the app has been changed recently which effects my overall impression together with getting further into the app itself. I was doing the Spanish and Japanese courses and at first I thought it was good but an albeit buggy and slightly empty game with ads which were semi frequent but not overly intrusive but recent updates have significantly changed my impressions. Now ads are intrusive and annoying, the bugs seem to have gotten worse in the most recent update with significantly more random crashes, ads not loading, phone getting hot, excessive battery drain, the levels in the play and learn section being garbled or missing. Recently the developer has restricted the ability to switch between languages unless paying the premium option effectively locking you out of your other course which you may have significant progress in, I personally find this decision a bit baffling as learning more languages is only going to increase the odds of you paying for premium not decrease but as it is currently I’m trapped in a very incomplete Japanese beta course which is very very unfinished and lacking core functionality and polish. In turn I’m unlikely to continue using this app or support the dev either via watching what are now intrusive ads or paying for premium. Shame really as I thought this app had potential.

Excellent game and the improvement it has made on my language fluency is amazing, in only a few days. A couple of things need fixing though. Eg: I cannot have a conversation with the game characters as the keyboard is obstructing the type area so I cannot see what I wrote! I have an iPad Pro so it has plenty of screen but it’s impossible to make the typing box visible. Very irritating, as it cancels all the conversation if I make one spelling mistake. Second thing: even though the speech (hands free) feature is a must and helps me learn better, I sometimes cannot get past a word (eg A) because no matter how I pronounce them it won’t recognise them! Few smaller things could also be improved like explaining why I lost when the battle ends abruptly even though I haven’t done any mistakes and I’m only on the third exercise or so etc. In total though, goods far outweigh the small glitches. Would still recommend this game without hesitation.

I’m intermediate and despite not getting a question wrong still died. Weird. Good luck making the gaa as me better.

A Russian tiktoker introduced me to this app. I was using Duolingo at the moment, but is more fun and keeps you learning without even knowing it!

Really liked this game at first, but then got very discouraged when given three crates to catch other beasts and failed each time. The first crate I did not know how to use it property, but game forced me to use it without any tutorial and the other two crates it was too fast or the language got very difficult very quickly and it broke the crate on first try. Each crate costs a lot of money and there is no guarantee that you will get a beast even a common one. The timer on this game also bothers me a lot as I have a learning disability and sometimes I need a few more minutes to get something and being rushed makes it difficult to complete the game. I like how you can set the difficulty on the game, but it does not work when it comes to catching beasts and it goes to hardest automatically pushing you to fail automatically if you don't get the answers fast enough. There are no second chances when it comes to catching a beast you just lose the trap automatically if not done correctly in a fast pace environment.

Most of it is battling so I am hoping that you can more do memorization to the game. Thanks.

This is a great game to supplement your Russian. I can practice what I've learned and get competitive to learn more.

Very fun and similar to old school monster capture and battle games. A little on the dated side with style and art but fun never the less.

LangLandia is a legitimately fun way to drill your new language. Many games profess to be this, and aren’t. If you have the collecting gene, and most of us do, and/or are competitive, give this game a whirl!

I have been using LangLandia for the past three years. Excellent vocabulary and grammar training . I am looking forward to seeing the speech recognition portion of the app improve ( Beta testing ) at this time. I wish there was a way that I could save all my past errors rather than just taking screen shots or scrolling through previous percentages. The developer/ developers have been quick to help with any concerns. I would highly recommend this app to any level of Spanish language learner. Muchas gracias, Preed aka Queen Isabella
