Really small food selection and weird layout

If you are looking for an app to scan barcodes and plug in values then this is not for you. If you are looking for a completely customizable accurate app with a recipe builder this is it. It takes a bit of time to create your own data base and food entries and there is a learning curve to the app versus apps such as My Fitness Pal. BUT you will know that your custom entries are accurate. Many apps where you scan barcodes for food items are not accurate. The recipe building function on this app is terrific and customizable! Many of the features in this app are only included in the premium upgrade for other apps. This is a steal at the price of $0!

I've long loved Macros Inc and disliked mm+ so I was happy to try their new app but after spending some time with it, it's not good. The food database is so small, the design is clunky, it's laggy, and you can't even enter a value for protein when creating a new food... With so many other good tracking apps out there, I don't get why macros inc chose to build a new one instead of integrating with others.

I knew going in that the database wasn’t big yet, and that I’d have to add foods. That’s fine. However, adding a food glitched to the point the whole app shut down and has not opened since, which is why I dropped the rating—if I can’t successfully add foods, we have a problem. I also think the adds food screen needs to make sure the question marks explaining what some things are actually work—I couldn’t get any of them to open. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t work—so now the app still won’t open at all :/ Update: next day (11/21/24) app now opens but I can’t access yesterday at all, the app shuts down. My biggest annoyance so far, when the app works, is that the nutrition pieces are all at only one measurement. That is, it asked for mcg of calcium with no option to change to percent or another measurement, and the package I’m looking at says mg, and one I was looking at earlier was percents only. Which means now everything I’ve added is wrong to some extent because if I’m quick adding, I don’t have time to figure the math. It’s a little annoying not having anything I’ve scanned in the system—I did know I would have to add things, but didn’t realize I would be adding everything!

I liked the flexibility of changing macros to meet my goals, but the scanner never worked on any products and resulted in a LOT of manual time to input information

The concept and dashboard are great but the food scanner needs work. It has not found one good item I tried to scan.

I like the displays and summary. However I have yet to find a bar code item and have to enter everything that is not a single food item. I wish I could see a total fiber gram count for a day.

No premium subscriptions required. You can set your own calorie/macro goals or use the app to calculate it for you.

Wow this is app is so good!! Making recipes is a breeze. The ease of use functionality and intuitiveness is levels above all other apps and it’s 100% free.
