I’m a writer and I’ve been playing around a lot with technology just to see whether it delivers anything meaningful to my workflow or output. This did the exact opposite way that you might hope. You enter a topic that you’d like to explore and the app is supposed to generate some themes to develop. It does this from poorly to moderately well, depending on the input. Never was I blown away, but sometimes the list contain things that were not at all related to what I had . If you do find one that you’d like to work with, you select the option and then one of three voices: academic, a “fun storyteller” or a “viral influencer.” While the first one is obvious, it never bothers to define what the difference between the second and third voice options are. Is every viral influencer not a fun storyteller? OK, so you picked your voice and topic. The app then shoots you to a page with 10 Chuck of a generated copy with a max character limit of 280 characters that it doesn’t seem to know about because it often just cuts off at the 280th character. Every “story “that I spent time to actually develop out, upon attempting to either save it or publish it — I received an error resulting in total or substantial loss of the work. It’s interesting because they have integrated some kind of monetization strategy and I do see that there are some article articles published, but I’m wondering how. How many times do those people have to press save or published before they actually got one through? How much did the AI actually help them? The writing is incredibly basic. It’s grammatically correct and is in line with all established style rules and whatnot but after a few hours of getting nothing done (oh, the irony!), I’ll stick to other brainstorming tools and development approaches. I mean, some of the “trending” articles had zero interactions. Very weird, very liminal space.
With Memo’d I can learn anything in 10 bullet points. Love it.
