Mobel is a bell ringing simulator for church bell ringers and handbell change ringers. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Mac. When ringers are at home, travelling or at towers, Mobel lets them practise any method they are going to ring. It also shows the blue line diagram for any method, including bobs and singles.
Practise any method on 4 to 16 bells.
Ring plain courses, or touches that Mobel creates (including spliced). Add your own touches (compositions).
Ring any bell; handbell ringers can ring any pair.
Mobel rings the other bells, and speaks any calls.
Conduct: put in bobs and/or singles yourself.
See the blue line diagram for any method or composition that you have added.
Line styles with or without the underlying bell numbers, or as a grid.
Lines for bobs and singles.
Pinch to zoom the diagram.
Select from 20,000 methods in the Central Council library.
Change the speed of the ringing.
Ring with or without a handstroke gap.
Have Mobel wait if you hesitate - or continue in perfect rhythm.
Edit methods and calls to create new methods or doubles variations.
Basic instructions for using Mobel on iPhone and iPad:
- Tap a bell to select it for ringing.
- Tap Start to start the bells ringing rounds.
- Then tap Go to ring the current composition and method.
- Tap the bottom of the screen to ring the bell you selected.
- For handbells, tap right and left to ring a pair.
- Conducting: tap the top of the screen for a bob or single.
- Tap Show to see the blue line for the current method.
- Then double tap to change line style, or pinch to zoom.
- Tap the info (i) button to view and change settings.
- Tap the Help buttons for further information.
From iOS 13.4 onward you can also ring using a keyboard on iPad/iPhone.
Mobel comes from AbelSim, producer of the world's best-selling change ringing simulators: Abel for Windows PCs and Mabel for Apple Mac (see www.abelsim.co.uk).
Mobel is not intended for handbell tune ringers: it rings changes, not tunes.
The latest version runs on iOS 12 and later. Earlier versions of Mobel are still available for previous versions of iOS.

Wonderful

Fantastic teaching aid

Great app recently ruined!

I’ve used Mobel on iPad and iPhone for many years and love it. However, the most recent update has totally destroyed the timing of when I touch the screen to the bell actually ringing. It is impossible to strike the selected bell correctly - this makes it almost unusable!Please could you fix this?? Thank you

Pretty good, however…

I have benefited strongly from this app, as it has improved my ringing drastically over the years. However, I would like there to be specific compositions available for methods on stages above 8 bells, on at least 10 and 12, ideally, just like they offer the composition of Grandsire 1260 on 8 bells, for example. Furthermore, a variety of keys would be nice to have for the ringing. There is a glitch with the treble, as it cannot be activated as soon as the rounds start, so I think that should be fixed.

A must for learners

Can’t fault it as it enables hours of solo practice and is really simple to use. Only thing that would make even better is if you could select to start a method at a specific point, eg, third lead, so you don’t have to keep starting from the beginning in long complicated methods while you’re learning them. Thank you!!

Excellent Tool

Excellent tool for amusement during lockdown

Temperamental

Rung bell intermittent malfunction. Seems overly sensitive to pressure. Reported to contact e-address without response. Fine when it actually works as intended. Frustrating when it doesn’t.

A ringers delight

This is an excellent app for both learning and practicing methods. You can learn the line by tapping it out, hear the rhythm, and receive a score for your efforts. Does both tower and handbells. Useful to practice anytime you find a spare moment. I wouldn’t be without it. Just off to practice Stefan triples!

A great way to practice methods after a long break from ringing. Used to have the pc version. Amazing to have this in my pocket! Thanks!!!!

Belltastic!

As a newby ringer, Mobel is fantastic at teaching methods, even though I’m still on plain hunt, it allows you to move round the bells without having to concentrate on the handling of the bells- it’s so clever. My brain is finally realising what I’m supposed to be doing. Can’t wait to put it into practice at our next meeting.

Bobs and singles

Really useful app but the only down thing is that I can’t put and bobs or singles in the method
