A great idea that needs analytics and updating
Like the content updates for 2020, this rating has been updated for 2020. The same functionality issues exist. The app has a search function but it is limited and doesn’t work with the common questions of the inexperienced Navy spouse. Questions like: What do I wear to a Navy Ball, Dining Out, to visit a ship/sub/squadron? How do I get on base to visit my spouse? Ship visit Hail and farewell If the key word in the question doesn’t match the app’s main content titles the search comes up empty. A new spouse may not be familiar with the general headings for specific topics If the content is locked in a pdf file the search will always come up empty as the engine doesn’t search pdf. Take the content out of that format and put it into a responsive text size format and there might be more success in that arena. Having to hamburger to get to comments and feedback means the app won’t get many comments or feedback items. More than one click is a detriment for use. The feed back function is currently broken so I placed my feed back here so that the creators will have access to it. Checking the analytics of whether or not the app is used or removed from the phone after download and what aspects of the app are used most and what areas users linger on or depart the app from will give insight as to areas of success and areas that could be tweaked to encourage more use and sharing of the information about the app. Without use analytics any updates for content and usability are shots in the dark that may not be the target that is most needed. The app is a great idea in itself- and active duty members get it and don’t think twice because they’ve had extensive onboarding into Navy life. It needs updates and accessibility tweaking before it will be used and successful in the Navy family arena. Spouses and family members are not living in or used to communicating the same way that occurs in the culture of active duty and thus move on after giving the app a once quick look to other resources and will simply search google or another engine to find their answers faster.
