This worked perfectly for me, and did just what I expected. I charged the device, downloaded the app, did not create an account. I was able to scan a spot on a newly-acquired painting and get the perfect paint color recommendations from the favorite brands I chose. A worthwhile investment to ensure I paint this huge accent wall the exact color I want.
I bought the Mini 3R from Amazon but was very shock and hesitated to install after seeing such low App ratings. I installed the app, scanned a few colors in the house and tested saving out color chips. Yes it doesn’t have all the color but for DIYer, residential use (Contractor myself), this is perfect. I would say it is more than enough. I would have giving 4-stars because it would help if they carry everything for Behr, SW, DE, BM, PPG. However, they really are one of the best one available at very affordable price. I give credit for that. Therefore, 5 stars! Give them a shot!
I purchased the Nix 2 as a gift for my wife. She was the color coordinator in our household. I thought this might be a useful and fun tool. She never used it.... Today I needed to determine a match color for a ceiling repair at one of our homes. I decided to try and use the Nix to determine a match. I cannot authoritatively determine if the scanner is accurate but I can say the Nix Utility software is useless and unintuitive. Despite knowing the paint brand we use (Sherwin Williams), I was provided at least a dozen choices based on my scan. Useless! On balance, this was a wasted $100 "stocking stuffer." I may try this one more time on an exterior project. If I glean any useful information from the second effort, I will update my rating and review. At this point, Buyer Beware.....
My heart sinks when I have to use this app. Not only is the UX and workflow horrible but the libraries of vendor colors don’t match when Lowes and Home Depot have for those brands-Valspar and Sherwin-Williams and Glidden. For example, I got a good match on a Valspar color but the paint associate searched four systems for the paint name with no success by name or number. I’m better off cutting a piece out of the wall and taking it in. Going to see if I can turn the device, Nix Mini 3.
Nix needs to use a solid, proven mobile app developer. This app’s user flow is non-existent. Just one frustrating example, of many, try creating a library, add a color to it then go back to reference… good luck. This is indicative of the app’s poor UI.
I got the Nix Mini 3 for Christmas. I was super stoked to be able to use this. I cannot sign up for an account on either the app or the website because the birthday fields don’t work. I cannot get email support because I filled out the form and the last field just says “undefined”. I can’t call them because in order to do so, you have to fill out a form, that doesn’t work. So this is getting returned. What’s the point?
Concur w the other reviews, all the issues are covered. Although, I’m not sure if it’s the crappy unit or crappy app. Gave it 2 stars rather than 1 because it was a semi-useful tool when it worked & they did respond quickly to my email.
It seemed like a good idea 🥺 But the sensor is just too small and the app constantly loses the paint library’s You’d probably have more accurate results with a magic 8 ball. 😜
Resets the settings if I disconnect the device, or even if I just lock my phone. Too many button presses just to measure and save one sample. Why do I have to be logged in to do anything?
