This charity links up people who give their time, fuel and goodwill with supermarkets who would otherwise waste large amounts of food. It takes time and effort to build up a network of people who need to first hear about the app, remember to check and get in the habit of coming to save food. The app however often glitches so that listings of food and potential pickups are not updated properly. My main concern however is the way that people who take the time to build up a network are treated in relation to minor rule slip-ups. Many of the rules are excessive and unrealistic given the circumstances that listings have to be done, and result in lots of food actually being wasted which could have been used. They do not welcome feedback about their systems having only an automated system which never results in any meaningful change to the way things are done. The other issue is that many food waste hero’s are refusing to pick up all of the food available and are listing for very short pickup windows so that they only really take what they would like themselves rather than sharing as much as possible. As olio seems to come after its own hero’s, I would advise folk to look at other ways of reducing food waste and in view of their unresponsive tone deaf feedback systems, I will contact supermarkets directly as well to explain that there are better ways than this to avoid food waste. A good idea, poorly implemented and not kept up to date with reality on the ground.

It started really good but has gradually become worse and worse to use for both the requesters and collectors (they call it food heroes). It introduced a mandatory ad watching before requesting popular (and sometimes not popular) items and a system where by the collect would have to answer questions, quizzes, and respond to queries very frequently. Rules are not enforced unless it is helping Olio making more money. Making it worse, the support team really don’t give a damn to its food heroes and would simply close complaints and tickets when they found it difficult to handle them. Very nice concept, very poor execution.

Very has super communication with items and efficient in leaving items for collection.
