The Recon 3D app leverages sensor fusion, LiDAR, and photogrammetry to turn the iPhone 13 Pro into a 3D scanner that provides a highly accurate 3D model for forensic analysis. The fact that it is possible to accomplish such a task with a smartphone is insane. I’m not to the point where I will use it as a standalone scanner, but I’m getting close. A few more improvements to make the scanning process more robust and responsive and Recon 3D may replace my tripod laser scanner for many scan jobs. Well done to the development team!

Recon 3D is taking crash and crime documentation to a new level. Using an iPhone to document incidents accurately is not just a great idea; Recon 3D makes it work. Recon 3D’s focus on accuracy is a must to use the app for LE.

This is a great app for iPhones and iPads that have the LIDAR functionality. While you can use targets to enhance the accuracy, I’ve found that it’s accurate enough for most of my 3D reconstruction cases “right out of the box”! That makes this an amazing tool for many forensic metrology applications at a price point significantly lower than traditional field laser scanning tools. It gets better with every release so I always look forward to regular improvements and additional functionality. This is a great App at a great price, well worth my investment!!

Hands down the best iOS app for reality capture. The data is crisp, clean and the colors are accurate. Validation studies help with the admissibility of data captured with this app. This should be on every CSI’s LiDAR-capable device for quick, accurate capture of 3D data.

No other app on the market compares to Recon3D. The data is accurate, and because of the sensor fusion, produces a point cloud that isn’t fuzzy like other apps. The data is some of the best handheld scan data I’ve seen and rivals some structured light handheld scanners on the market. The processing time is getting faster and the file sizes are very manageable. I can’t wait to see where this app goes from here!

Scanning a calibrated grid 2.5 feet X 2.5 feet, the error I measured in the scanned point cloud grid was only 0.007 feet. You can get a detailed scan of an entire car in less than three minutes. (Obviously, processing it into a point cloud takes more time in the background than collecting the data.)

This app is absolutely one of the best purchases I have made from the App Store. I cannot believe how well the app works and how accurate the data collected is. The app is super easy to use. I have personally tested the accuracy using both hand measurements and commercial grade 3-D scanners. It simply works and provides a great looking 3-D model from the data captured. Each time I scan I am even more impressed. Using it on passenger cars, and even tractor trailers I can get all of the measurements I need to complete my task. I have tried most every scanner app that I can find and nothing compares to this. I know a tremendous amount of work and research went into this product and it truly delivers. Best of all there is free software that you can use to view, edit, measure and even animate the results. Using the models in commercial grade software is easy and impressive as well.
