Both the speaker and app are complete garbage
Version 3.0 worked for a few months then stopped. Presumably the app was not updated to meet Apple standards. Now there is no control of left/right channels or type of sound. The speakers still run as plain speakers via Airplay, etc. What a waste.
One of the worst apps ever. If it happened to work for you, it’s totally just luck. Great speaker rendered only AirPlay useful without any controls other than off and on. Pitiful. Zero response to numerous calls for assistance. The phone I’d never answered - voicemail and no response for 9 months running.
I see a bunch of negative reviews, but after having purchased a Riva Concert recently, I have not had any trouble. Maybe the firmware updates have helped...when I first got it the app seemed to work fine, then the next day the firmware updates. Again, no problems. I gave it 4 stars because the UI is a little unintuitive, but, with the exception of one connectivity issue that was quickly remedied by a power cycle, it has done everything I’ve wanted. I love the speaker and really only use it as an airplay speaker. The Alexa integration could be a little better, but it still works pretty darn well. Amazon just hasn’t opened that up completely, and that’s fine with me. So far, so good.
This app should’ve never passed Apple’s quality assurance check. It simply won’t connect to the device it’s intended to support. And while you can still use the RIVA Concert speaker through Airplay without this app, you can’t adjust any of the speaker settings without this app. I’ve tried reaching out to RIVA but haven’t gotten any kind of response.
This app is for setting up and controlling a RIVA Concert speaker. It consists of a wizard that is supposed to walk your device through setup on your network, connection to Amazon, and to control the speaker’s tone, since there are no physical controls. The first function - setup - is frustrating and unhelpful. If any aspect of setup doesn’t go as expected, no troubleshooting or even feedback is presented. The only “help” is to tell you to download this very same app! Good luck if you are not geeky and can work out the issues yourself. The second function, connecting to Amazon, is fine. The third function - controlling your speaker settings - gets a minus rating. The app may tell you that you have no devices and want you to set one up, when it’s clearly on your network and responding to voice commands. The menu buttons are confusing - there is no “home” button, only “Discovery”. The “Tutorials” for setup are a joke. Same goes for the “Settings “. But most frustrating is lack of control over the speaker’s tone. I’m not expecting a virtual sound board or detailed equalizer, but even simple bass and treble control is all but non existent. The app theoretically gives you a 5db boost and -5db decrease in bass and treble. However the effect is barely discernible. If a track or station has poorly balanced signal, be prepared to deal with muddiness and complaints from neighbors if you live in an apartment or condo. And if you are buying small speakers such as this, it is likely.
