Script supervisor here with industry pro! Scriptation is really nice, it embodies the paperless transition for the script supervisor. It acts like a powerful pdf editor and annotator and does what it says. However, there’s little optimization for real-life use and I have encountered quite a few error which don’t seem to ever be getting better. I’m in the middle of a feature production and the app is much much slower, even though I don’t do anything special other than annotating and writing on the facing page. Switching between layers is cool, but it is really slow and is hard to use on the set. The lining feature is absolutely useless, has it’s own layer that can’t be used along the other layers. It supports very few setups (from A to N) and, regardless of the actual space occupied on the page, if you have more than N setups, it creates a new lining layer. If you export the lining, there will be repeated pages to show all the setups. I line my script with the annotation tools. A digital ruler would be really useful since selecting lines and other shapes is slow. I am currently using a physical ruler to line my scripts digitally, my best workaround yet. This is the cheapest option for the script supervisor and it is pretty dependable (I haven’t lost any data yet), but nevertheless frustrating. Wherever there’s wind or rain I remember that this is, still, the best option.

I don't know how I prepped without this app, its a must have for any Industry professional who needs to prep a shoot The tagging feature is my favorite and easily exports breakdowns with all my tags. A huge time saver!

As a Dialoge Coach on a sitcom, Scriptation is a must have. To be able to highlight Actors lines in the blink of an eye is perfect for my job. I absolutely can. I do my job without this app.

Scriptation changed the game for digital script management by figuring out how to incorporate revisions into a file without losing your notes. That was HUGELY innovative and there only reason why I was able to go digital on set. Note transfer between revisions was a good enough reason to put up with the other glitchy things about using it in 2019. But now it is frustrating to use in the exact same ways it was frustrating to use 5 years ago. But costs more. Years later, the same glitches still exist and haven't improved at all. Sure they've added new AI features I don't need but all I want is to be able to make a text note, resize it, and then, if I have to edit the note, not LOSING the resize. I want it to work seamlessly on my ipad and my desktop. I want a Stamp in the shape of a CAMERA for making overheads in the app. I want it to search my handwritten notes. I want to be able to use my stylus to select a section of handwritten notes I want to move or resize. Good notes has all this functionality. It's a breeze to use and it's annoying to know that's all possible but Scriptation has chosen to remain clunky and keeps raising it's SUBSCRIPTION PRICE every year! Even in the year our whole industry was on strike. I'd LOVE to be able to turn my handwritten notes to text blocks. Scriptation, I see everyone singing your praises in these 5 star reviews but you should know what all the directors I know are complaining about behind your back. Please clean up the basic functions of making notes on scripts.

Edit after response: this app is exactly what I need. If you are trying to study screenplay, this app will help immensely. It is great for organization and cleanliness in reading. I highly recommend this app.

It should not take me more than 5 minutes to figure out how to open a blank document.

I did not like this app at all because unless you want to pay for the premium version, the only scripts that you can look at or annotate are the 2 demo ones and you can’t even change them to have those be your scripts because to edit anything is a premium option so you can’t do anything with it unless you want to pay for premium.
