The app is taking a very novel approach to give useful insights about weather conditions to expect during an upcoming sunset. Instead of showing a bunch of detailed hourly predictions for a multitude of parameters, it just focuses on what the forecasted weather conditions would actually mean in terms of light and its observable effects for an eye of a photographer, an artist or a sightseer as the Sun would be going away.
These forecasts could be random, or fabricated, as there's no way to see their accuracy. Is it snake oil?
Lumy does the same thing, and is available as a one off purchase (and is cheaper!)
I get why this is a subscription because of the services required to get the data but it really isn’t worth it. You get three very basic data points for the current day and that’s it. There is no forecasts so there is zero use for planning photo shoots. It looks nice but very little info and a monthly/yearly sub just makes zero sense. It feels like it should be a paid add-on for an existing weather/planning app not a standalone one. I do applaud the idea and the design though!
Marrying the timings of golden hour to the weather conditions is a great idea and every bit as well executed as you’d expect coming from the makers of Halide. Worth every penny of the subscription, especially as I know the weather data that they use has ongoing costs.
I respect the need for developers to meet ongoing server costs, but the app flow seems unwelcoming and almost jarring, requiring an immediate commitment to subscribe without first being able to experience the app. I don’t consider starting a trial as an acceptable consumer-friendly option in this situation either. I’d like to see a one-time payment option for a “dumbed down” version of the app which uses traditional Golden Hour mechanics (like other such apps on the App Store), with an option to subscribe to the more advanced / dynamic features.
Sadly moving to a monthly subscription model as many developers are. There are cheaper/free alternatives.
As usual, visually stunning but not worth the monthly fee. Better apps out there that are either free or have a one time purchase. Not worth it unfortunately.
Don’t see the value in this app. Far too many variables for this to be accurate enough and worth the annual fee.
