Standard Notes is a private and secure end-to-end encrypted notes app. It allows you to write and sync your notes across all your devices, including your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and web browser.
Private means your notes are end-to-end encrypted, so only you can read your notes. Even we can't read the contents of your notes.

Fantastic App for GSD and Privacy

Small team, very responsive, fantastic app for not being bogged down by additional items. Highly, highly recommend. 5 stars but will flag features roll out slower than shinier services. Check in for plug-ins (eg: Excalidraw plugin) for amazing user-provided features!

sudden monetization of previously free features

i used to be able to view edits or past sessions of notes while using the free version of the app but all of a sudden one day while trying to find text i accidently deleted in a note i was writing, clicking the editing/past sessions feature opens up a popup sayign to subscribe to a paid plan. why not do this from the beginning instead of having it free if you are going to charge for the feature later???

Decent note taking app

The only problem I have is that you can’t select multiple notes. This makes it harder to sort notes and delete ones that I don’t need anymore.

Great app, but too expensive for what it is

It’s a great app with plenty of functionality and a great UI. However to gain many essential features, you need a paid account at a whopping $60 a year.

ProtonMail of note-taking apps

The best way to describe this app is that it is the best and most mature secure note taking all around. It has its challenges because of trying to do everything securely but those aren’t usually big enough to stop me from using it. I have been a paid subscriber for 4 years and have tried multiple other secure note taking apps but I end up on Standard Notes. It’s not flashy or gimmicky (and I like flashy) but it is reliable, and functional which is the most important thing after being secure.

Can’t open the app

Had the app for a long time, now it crashes as soon as I click on it and I can’t access my notes anymore. Had to delete the app and redownload, they now ask for an account. Loss all my notes and no privacy anymore. Pass.

The account requirement is pretty dumb…

There was some kind of explanation in another review about backing up data and syncing, but I think it’s pretty lame. If you just create a single database file that’s encrypted, and you allow the app to point to the file on whatever cloud storage one would use, all you’d have to do is enter a master key string to decrypt the data base, and then use biometrics or a pin code to access to write notes etc. There should really be no need to force people who are searching for such solutions to give up privacy in creating an account, in order to attain the perception of privacy there after. The better solution would be to just use Pages to write all your notes and journals, lock it with a password, and then use Boxcryptor to encrypt it, and upload to your cloud provider.

Great private text notes tool

I’ve been using it for a few years now. Previously used Simplenote which had a few sync issues a few years back. I’ve never lost a note with Standard Notes, and they are all encrypted, so I don’t need to worry about privacy. There are a few minor glitches with editors sometimes- like the spreadsheet not working on iPad, the Markdown Minimalist editor not always loading, or copy/paste or auto correct not always working. I hope the developers read this!

Developers: PLEASE ADD DELETION AFTER 10 LOGIN ATTEMPTS

Developers: *PLEASE* add account deletion after 10 incorrect login attempts. I have found that it is immensely easy to bypass the StandardNote system as it is, using the default iOS password instead of the face, and then trying each number between 0000 - 9999 until correct. *PLEASE* implement a feature so that everything wipes after 10x attempts. StandardNote is perfect as is, this is the only flaw that I can see, but it is a large flaw as it is related to security. I’m a professional writer and I use the software daily! :)
