Anyone with fingers will find this very hard to program and a stylus is highly recommended. The sound quality is stunning. I’ve used it live twice. Once played from an Arturia Keystep and once from it’s own interface. Quite CPU intensive for my iPad 5th generation. The audio clicks under certain conditions, which I suppose are dependent upon the intensity of the process.
Got to hand it to Virsyn, they make great products then keep them great by constantly updating them as iOS evolves.
Even if you already own the other big synths like Thor and Z3TA this one is a great addition, it's capable of producing otherworldly sounds and has a distinctive character which I like a lot. Thanks for this great update.
A major synth in the world of iOS. Essential! Incredible sound creation. Possibilities are endless. With high quality effects..a deep machine, worth exploring. Wonderful!
Weirdly, given my deep love for Addictive, I'd spent a whole week in it, trying to make a tune out of its sounds alone. It was pretty easy, VirSyn make wonderful instruments, Addictive being one of the first iOS synths and still holding them back in certain quarters. Then this appeared, an obvious buy. What a treat! It's by far the most twiddly, widdly app yet, its insane to the ears. Reminiscent of the JD800, it sounds great, but there's too much temptation to move some sliders, 3 touches on, the sound is vastly different and taking you on a little journey that has no defined conclusion. The patching is pretty simple once you've caught the groove, it help if you're familiar with their earlier work, Addictive, Cube and Micro all have the same workings, so you can get straight to the nonsense and cut out the sanity. If you've used their arp, you know it's hard to beat, no exceptions here, apart from not actually wanting to use it and let the notes carry on their merry way. It's no beginners machine, it could cause much confusion, but to someone who's looking for the next ride into space, get on board immediately, switch the lights off and fiddle until the dawn. My epic Tera only tune will be released in 2024, I'm not going to rush it... JINXPADLOCK
A absolute must,amazing sound,incredibly powerful,a treat to tweak.
Another fantastic offering from VirSyn who continue to excite in the iOS music world. Their apps offer amazing depth, they are all feature-packed and come at a great price too. Tera Synth sounds absolutely amazing. The UI, the concept, the workflow, the power, the filters and THAT arp. I think they have thrown everything at this one and it works. Oh, and it comes with over 900 presets to get you started!!
The file system function set (such as it is) is new and this app is not. It does not work with the newer file functions. You can open recording .wav files in other apps. No need for catastrophizing reviews - the app not only works, it is one of the few best synthesizer apps in the store. Eventually one hopes for a minor file-system-storage-compatibility update from the developer. Meantime, work like an old timer and enjoy a great synth.
A finest example of truly versatile MASSIVE synth that’s intuitively designed not to feel like it’s overwhelming or all over the place! It’s a semi-modular synth, meaning there are fixed number of modules that you can hook up in any way. Once you start experimenting with it, the range of sounds is very wide, and the sound quality is great even without fx applied (the only way to test a synth is with fx Off). As far as semi-modular synths go, Tera is one of the most straightforward ones I’ve ever seen. It’s got a sliding UI that you basically slide from left to right to get to various units. But this is done nicely (not like in Reason iOS), and there’s accelerated scrolling so you can quickly get from one side to the other. Now when I say it’s easy to use, I mean making it do exactly what you want to do quickly. There are a LOT of variation/complexity in what can be done in terms of chaining, filter types, sound sources... can’t even list them all. I can list modulation, you get 4 LFOs, 4 ADSRs, 4 MENV (this is like envelope but you can daw path and more stuff, really cool!) With so much going on, the app runs very efficiently, which is very important on iOS because latest iPads have very limited resources when compared with even much older laptops. Overview - UI is simple/quick to use. Each of those knobs you see, controls amount of whatever it says, the slider underneath controls modulation intensity of this item (up - normal, down opposite), and the box underneath is a modulation source (LFO, env, etc..) Some can have more than one of these. If you scroll to the very right, you’ll see Amplifier, this is where you start. You see 2 input sources with a blend knob on it. For example you can put Filter-1 here. Then scroll to Filter-1 section, which also has an Input box, and you can put OSC-1 there that’s it - you got sound. Or you could put another filter there, a mixer, or something else, but this is basically how you chain things. UI might appear a bit boring looking, like a schematic, but controls are all well placed so it’s super quick to use, and that’s a whole lot more important than flashy colors with limited sound capabilities. There are 2 screens, Synth and Modulation, that control the synth directly (there are also Arp and FX screens). When you tap on modulation box in the Synth screen you get a popup of the thing (LFO, ENV, etc) so you can adjust it directly without going into MOD screen (though you get even more options through MOD) Presets
