The Gluten Free Scanner

I paid extra for what they said was hundreds of thousands of gf foods, but it’s ok if you only buy name brand. I’m an aldis shopper, so anything I scanned said they couldn’t find the bar code. If I scanned salsa, aldis bacon popped up and it said it was from same store! Useless! My husband was just diagnosed with celiac’s, I wasted money on this app. And should’ve waited and researched.

Scanner almost never finds foods, but search will return the item it couldn’t find with scanning — sometimes. Search isn’t smooth, no editing so sometimes have to try over and over. Bought the full version for each person in my family and regret it. It would be helpful if you could add items. I found several items that are certified gluten free but not found via scanner or search but no way to add them yourself.

Great concept if it actually worked. My son was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and his nutritionist suggested this app. The free version kept telling me that the barcodes were not found and suggested I pay for the full version, so I did. It still only recognizes few barcodes, never any store brands. I’m very disappointed and was hoping for better results once I paid for the full version.

I scanned my Gatorade bottle and it said, “may contain gluten.” I googled Gatorade and it said, All Gatorade products (liquid and powder formulations) are gluten-free.” I also scanned Tostitos medium salsa con queso (the small jar) it told me no gluten containing ingredients but check the manufacturer for cross contamination. Then I scanned the exact same thing but the bigger jar. It told me “may contain traces of gluten.” Which is it?

The option to search is welcomed, but I don’t really know how to distinguish what I see. I can look up items, but I can’t tell what is tasty, their avg cost, or what can even be found in my local grocery stores. Could you please implement a consumer rating system for these products based on quality/flavor? Then a way to narrow my search based on rating and/or how often someone has favorited said items? Perhaps even a comment section as well, where people may mention things such as advice on ways to prepare it or improve the flavor of an item? They could also comment places the item has been spotted for sale (such as Walmart, Aldi, or Food Lion, etc). Or maybe even a tag system for this? I’m sure there are other ways this could be helpful, as well. I paid for the full version, but this is what I am missing. I may not even use the app without these features, as it’s currently more informative to just check Reddit or Google to see what is said about any products I have a question about.

Lifesaver ! Makes shopping so much faster and easier for celiacs!

This app is free and should be. The scanner usually does not have the name brand i am scanning. I shop at safeway and it never has the store brands. So i have to look it up on the internet which is a hassle. I’d be glad to pay for this app if it is more comprehensive. But if your starting out its a place to start. This was written in 3/2024.

This app is a life saver in the supermarket. It really helps identify safe foods when you are not sure.

My life has been significantly less stressful after getting this app. Having celiac is hard enough, but accessibility aids like this really help out!!
