Thumsters - Parenting App

Overall this is a great app. Makes it easy to keep track of points and rewards. It could use a couple of tweaks though. For instance, the reporting could be much better. I’d like to see details for each day on what thumbs were given and what was bought. I’d love to not have to hit send to bank every time. I don’t think most people are using the thumbs immediately. It would be great if the kid version could request thumbs from the adult. For instance when they’ve done a chore.

I want this to work since it’s a great concept, but the subscription features rarely work as designed. Support is responsive and quick to release patches, but I often find new bugs afterwards.

I mean. Any time my kid doesn’t good or bad he’s going to see me open my phone to log it. This is okay I guess though I was hoping he could use the app to log chores. Did he brush his teeth, put away his laundry, do his piano…. To me that would be more useful than me in the moment giving him a thumbs down for not listening. I can see that part used as a bonus/punishment on top of the chores but I’m not going to log all his chores for him and there’s no scheduling for them.

Good concept and colorful UI, but the UX design can be improved a lot, For example, 1. If you just add one child, only top 20% of screen is used in every page, remaining screen is empty and useless 2. If you add more goals, only two are visible at front, you need keep scrolling right to see the all goals while most of screen is empty

We have been big fans of the Thumbster App for the past 2 years and I always recommend it to friends. BUT the biggest draw for me was the ability to give a thumbs up from my iWatch. I didn’t have to have my phone on me and I could do it quickly and more frequently (thus generating more positive feedback for my kids). Plus it eliminated the begging of my kids to do their thumbs up from my phone. When the big app upgrade happened, the watch program disappeared and ever since then I don’t use it as frequently. I try hard not to be on my phone constantly so I just got out of the habit of giving thumbs to my kids. And when I do pull it out they always want to do it themselves, which adds even more time to the process which deters me from wanting to readily give thumbs ☹️ The best part of Thumbsters vs. sticker charts was that you didn’t have to be around it to give the “sticker”. Once you start to forget about giving them out, the kids loose their motivation and thus stop trying with the positive behavior. Loosing the iWatch capability has been a huge setback for us so I’m going to start actively looking for a new program that is iWatch compatible. If you add it back, please let me know!!

Great app however, there needs to be a way to have the kids track their ratings in their device. On the developer website this was noted as a feature to be added in 2020 but I don’t see any updates

I love this app, I love this concept for goal setting. Except now my kid is sitting here crying because we went to do his thumbs up and everything is GONE. For the second time. This is a pain in the neck to set up, and to figure out where he was with all of his goals - plus the recent changes that make assigning thumbs to goals an extra step for him to mess up, and resetting goals nearly impossible - I don’t know that I’ll be continuing with this app. REALLY disappointed, and I’m a pro user.

I don't use this every ten minutes of every hour of every day because I am a normal human being with a job and other things to do besides hovering over my kids CONSTANTLY to give them thumbs up or down for literally every blink. So after doing all the set-up and navigating around I gave some thumbs up and down and then came back two days later to see all the thumbs GONE. I had to click through 7 screens to see a "historical" report which 100% defeats the point of the app. I don't want it to reset the count for me unless I have decided that I should reset it. The goals I set weren't met, and I couldn't see progress towards the goal because the app ate the thumbs. So yea if you are a micromanaging helicopter or if your children are glued to your hips all day and you thumb them constantly with your phone at every turn, this might be great. But if you are a normal person and your kids have any space at all, this app is worthless.

I’ve been using this app for years, it’s been very helpful, but with the new version every time someone earns a reward it goes away and I can’t reset it, instead have to make a new goal every time instead of resetting the old goal. Please bring this back! Otherwise it’s too annoying to use.

We’re just getting started and this is exactly what we need for behavior tracking. As the app suggested, we involved the child whose behavior we’re targeting in the setup. Unfortunately, the app asks for each child’s gender at the outset and the child we’re focused on identifies as non-binary. The requirement for a gender choice led the child to have a very adverse reaction to the app. There’s no reason the app needs the child’s gender and I’d love to see that question removed.
