Brilliant app but some of my audios don’t want to play, hope you fix that 🙌🏻
The app is slightly geared more for learners who are not absolute beginners but more intermediate or at least have been learning for a year. But this isn’t a bad thing. The more time you have been learning the more likely you will appreciate the app. The real magic though is that the stories start to get addictive and you can read them again and again once you have read them once and gone through the quiz. Having access to different difficulty levels is a bonus too if you want to stretch yourself. On the other hand even if your level is beyond beginner you can go through the basic level stories and articles and practice reading and speaking speeds. If you think about it another way it is like having a one to one lesson with a tutor that you recorded and can play back again and again. Which is why the price point of the app will make sense for more committed people. Tutors often cost more per month. Is it different than the TTMIK subscription courses online? Yes to some extent. There is something special at least for me in being able to read stories and articles because this is what I do in English. And the stories don’t baby the reader. They can get very nuanced. There’s obviously been a lot of thought and love put into this app without making it too complicated and it shows.
I’ve been paying for this for a few weeks now and have truly enjoyed the app and the useful vocabulary I am getting. As a learner of 10 years this app is super useful to keep my reading an vocabulary maintained. I do wish some if the sentences were longer in parts making use of conjunctions. However overall it is doing well. I do agree with the above comments about the price as it is above and beyond other services. The materials are good, but lateral.
I got the app as soon as it was launched, I loved it and subscribed. It worked perfectly fine at the beginning but now it doesn’t open. It’s stuck at a screen with the apps logo. Even after the update it still doesn’t work. UPDATE: After uninstalling and installing the app again, the issue has been successfully resolved.
Great app. It is exactly the tool I have been looking for. A graded reading and listening tool with interesting stories and articles. I’ve subscribed for a month so far as I am really enjoying the app and it’s helping to improve my comprehension. But if they want long term subscribers, I think the price should be reduced.
I gave it 4 stars as it’s a really thought out app with a great purpose. It’s nice to have articles and stories to read at your learning level that you can read, listen to then learn vocabulary from. There’s nothing like this available yet for learning Korean so it’s a great learning resource for many. However I do think as a standalone app paying that much a month for the app is a bit much. I do see people at an intermediate level using this much more than beginners so if you are a beginner in Korean I don’t recommend investing in this app, especially when you cannot highlight any word in the text and just the text in bold; meaning you won’t be able to pick up the whole context of the story without prior knowledge of vocabulary and verbs etc. But if you are a intermediate learner, this app is definitely worth the money as there are tons of context for you to go through and learn from and this is handy for exams too like the TOPIK exam etc with the quizzes at the end of each story or article For me as a beginner, as much as I love this app, I can’t see this being useful for my learning as of yet, especially at the price point. But well done to the TTMIK team for creating another great resource for Korean learners!
This app is fantastic for enhancing my learning through both reading and listening. The abundance of stories and impeccable audio contribute to its appeal. However, a useful improvement would be the ability to continually review saved vocabulary, preventing it from disappearing once mastered. Additionally, the subscription cost is too high for me; a monthly fee of $7 or $10 would be more reasonable compared to the current $20, making it more accessible to a broader audience. While I acknowledge the transition of TTMIK to a paid model, a more affordable pricing structure would benefit many users.
This app creates a great complement to the TTMIK workbook lessons and gives much needed extra practice from those books to solidify understanding. I think that the vocabulary review features on this app could be improved drastically in order to prevent people from forgetting words they read several days/weeks ago, but other than that the app is very helpful in seeing common idioms and spoken phrases. One other feature idea would be “script” stories for each level, where all of the reading is dialogue between characters and would allow for more practice with spoken phrases. Overall, great app for learning Korean!
This is an excellent app for learning Korean. Read the stores / articles and take the quizzes regularly and your Korean will improve accordingly. Highly recommend. 6/4/24: I recently finished level 5 and I am moving through level 6. I like to alternate 1:1 between stories and articles in order to maximize spaced interval learning effects. Within the profile screen where it shows the user’s progress (X/100 articles and X/100 stories), we should be able to click on articles or stories to go directly to the next item in queue to be read. Currently, you need to click first on the root link to articles/stories screen and then toggle between articles/stories and so on. This creates unnecessary additional clicks..
I’m not able to update or delete my previous review so I wanted to mention, the app was fixed within a day and everything has been working great since then. This app is an amazing learning tool and now the subscription is cheaper so it’s an incredible value!
